Overview

It's a high-speed spindle for composites, aluminium panels, tooling board, foam patterns and trimming operations, where surface speed matters and cutting forces are low. What it doesn't bring is the torque to treat this as a general-purpose large machining centre, and buying it for steel work would be a mistake.

The XT adds 21 inches of X-travel, going from 121 to 142 inches, with the same spindle, Y, Z and table width. It costs about US$40,000 more and only makes sense if your parts are longer than the standard machine handles.

For panel trimming, pattern work and flat-ish contouring, yes. For tall parts or deep pockets it isn't, and a VM-series machine or a different gantry with more Z would suit better.
