Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Gurutzpe GSM 16 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Torque defines the Gurutzpe GSM 16. Its turning headstock is listed at 27,525 / 36,700 Nm (20,302 / 27,070 lb-ft) at S1-100% / S6-60%, the highest figure in the GSM turnmill range, on a swing of Ø 1,600 mm (63.0 in) and up to 13,000 mm (511.8 in) between centers.
The motor is no bigger than the GSM 13's: both are rated 102 / 130 kW (136.8 / 174.3 hp). The extra torque is paid for in speed. This size is listed at 1,200 / 700 rpm, so it is geared for large diameters and heavy sections, and small journals on a long shaft will be cut slowly. Workpiece weight between centers comes in three classes, 10,000 / 15,000 / 20,000 kg (22,046 / 33,069 / 44,092 lb).
Parts of this size are rarely finished with standard tools alone, and the magazines reflect that. Beside the tool magazine with 50 / 80 / 100 posts, the table lists an accessories magazine over the headstock, with up to 4 automatic sliding posts for accessories of max. Ø150 mm and 2300 mm length. A heads pick-up magazine on the right end of the tailstock holds up to 4 heads and a boring bar of max. Ø200 mm and 3200 mm length. Gurutzpe points out that the magazine over the headstock does not increase the footprint.
Milling figures are the same as on the smaller sizes: a B-axis head swivelling ±110°, in four versions up to 85 kW or 18,000 rpm. The Y-axis guiding is hydrostatic. Gurutzpe's table prints no usable Y-axis stroke for this size, and the page gives no machine weight, so both belong on the list of questions for the maker. Chips fall vertically to the conveyor from a bed without blind pockets.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Headstock torque of 27,525 / 36,700 Nm (20,302 / 27,070 lb-ft) at S1-100% / S6-60%, the highest of the GSM sizes
- Three workpiece weight classes: 10,000 / 15,000 / 20,000 kg (22,046 / 33,069 / 44,092 lb) between centers
- Up to 13,000 mm (511.8 in) between centers with Ø 1,600 mm (63.0 in) of swing
- Heads pick-up magazine for up to 4 heads and a boring bar of max. Ø200 mm and 3200 mm length
- Accessories magazine over the headstock with up to 4 automatic sliding posts
Limitations
- Maximum spindle speed is 1,200 / 700 rpm, the lowest of the range; the GSM 13 is listed at 1,500 / 1,200 rpm
- Headstock power is 102 / 130 kW (136.8 / 174.3 hp), no more than the GSM 13, so the added torque comes from lower speed
- Up to 13,000 mm (511.8 in) between centers is a small step over the GSM 13, which is listed at up to 12,000 mm (472.4 in)
- Y-axis stroke, machine weight and footprint are not stated on Gurutzpe's page

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Maximum torque is 27,525 / 36,700 Nm (20,302 / 27,070 lb-ft) at S1-100% / S6-60%, from maximum power of 102 / 130 kW (136.8 / 174.3 hp). The GSM 13 has the same power rating and is listed at 16,155 / 21,540 Nm (11,916 / 15,888 lb-ft), so the difference lies in the speed range, not the motor.
02
The table lists a maximum spindle speed of 1,200 / 700 rpm. Two figures are given without a note on which version each belongs to; three weight classes are listed in the row below. The C-axis positioning speed is 15 rpm and the spindle inner bore is Ø 150 mm (5.9 in).
03
Workpiece maximum weight between centers is listed as 10,000 / 15,000 / 20,000 kg (22,046 / 33,069 / 44,092 lb). The top class is the heaviest in the GSM range. The weight class is chosen with the order, together with a center distance of up to 13,000 mm (511.8 in).
04
Through two magazines besides the tool magazine. One sits over the headstock with up to 4 automatic sliding posts for accessories of max. Ø150 mm and 2300 mm length. The other is a heads pick-up magazine on the right end of the tailstock for up to 4 heads and a boring bar of max. Ø200 mm and 3200 mm length. Check with Gurutzpe which Y-axis RAM version each magazine requires.
05
Four head versions are listed at S1-100% duty cycle: power of 49 / 56 / 60 / 85 kW (65.7 / 75.1 / 80.5 / 114.0 hp), torque of 1,410 / 305 / 165 / 530 Nm (1,040 / 225 / 122 / 391 lb-ft) and speed of 5,000 / 6,000 / 18,000 / 8,000 rpm. The tooling interface is C8 or HSK-T100 / C6 or HSK-T63.
