Overview
The Citizen Miyano ANX-42SYY is a dual-spindle, twin-turret fixed-headstock CNC lathe with dual Y-axes and built-in spindle motors for high-speed, high-precision production from 42 mm bar stock. The ANX platform represents Citizen's premium approach to compact multi-tasking, with built-in motors on both spindles that eliminate belt-driven vibration for superior surface finish and tighter tolerances.
Both spindles reach 6,000 RPM with 11/7.5 kW (15/10 hp) built-in motors. The built-in motor design shortens acceleration and deceleration times compared to belt-driven spindles, reducing cycle time on parts with frequent spindle speed changes. Both spindles accept 42 mm bar stock, ensuring full-diameter capability for backworking operations without the sub-spindle limitation found on BNA variants.
The twin 12-station turrets provide 24 tool positions, each accepting rotary tools running at 6,000 RPM with 2.2 kW of rotary tool power. The dual Y-axis configuration adds off-center travel on both turrets. Rapid traverse rates of 24 m/min on X1, X2, X3, Z1, and Z2 axes, 18 m/min on Y1 and Y2, and 30 m/min on Z3 provide fast repositioning across all axes. Maximum machining length is 130 mm.
At 6,250 kg with a footprint of 2,650 x 1,645 mm and rated power consumption of 34 kVA, the ANX-42SYY is substantially larger than single-turret BNA variants but delivers correspondingly more capability. LFV chip-breaking technology is available for reliable chip management in difficult materials.
The ANX-42SYY competes in the premium compact twin-turret segment against the Nakamura-Tome WT-150II and similar machines. Its built-in spindle motors and Fanuc control differentiate it from the Mitsubishi-controlled BNA/BND/BNE lineup. High-precision medical components, aerospace fittings, and automotive safety-critical parts where surface finish and concentricity tolerances demand built-in motor stability are the core applications.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Built-in spindle motors on both spindles eliminate belt vibration and reduce acceleration time, delivering superior surface finish and tighter tolerances versus belt-driven competitors
- Twin 12-station turrets with 24 total rotary tool positions at 6,000 RPM provide class-leading tooling density with true simultaneous independent machining
- Dual Y-axes enable complex off-center machining on both front and back of the part simultaneously, a capability rare in the 42 mm class
- Full 42 mm bar capacity on both spindles eliminates the sub-spindle diameter limitation found on BNA variants for complete backworking flexibility
- 130 mm maximum machining length is 30% longer than the 100 mm on BNA-42 variants, opening the machine to longer components
- Fanuc 31i-B control offers broad CAM compatibility and is familiar to the majority of CNC programmers
Limitations
- Premium pricing of $280,000+ makes it one of the most expensive options in the 42 mm fixed-headstock class
- 6,250 kg weight and 2,650 x 1,645 mm footprint is substantially larger than single-turret BNA variants, requiring more floor space and foundation work
- Dual Y-axis twin-turret programming is complex and requires experienced multi-path CNC programmers
- 34 kVA power consumption is significantly higher than simpler BNA variants, impacting operating costs

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New ANX-42SYY machines typically range from $280,000 to $400,000 depending on tooling, high-pressure coolant, bar feeder, and automation options. The built-in spindle motors and twin 12-station turrets command a significant premium over belt-driven BNA variants.
02
Built-in motors eliminate the mechanical connection between motor and spindle, removing belt-induced vibration. They also provide faster acceleration/deceleration since there is no belt inertia. The practical benefit is better surface finish at high RPM, improved concentricity, and reduced cycle time on parts with frequent speed changes.
03
The GTY offers more total tool positions (up to 45 vs 24) and 3-tool simultaneous cutting. The ANX provides twin 12-station turrets with dual Y-axes and built-in spindle motors. Choose the GTY for maximum tool count; choose the ANX for built-in motor precision and dual Y-axis flexibility.
04
Yes, LFV (Low Frequency Vibration) chip-breaking technology is available on the ANX-42SYY. LFV oscillates the tool during cutting to break chips into small, manageable segments, improving reliability in unattended production of stainless steel, titanium, and other difficult-to-chip materials.
