Overview

With a 4.0 m x 2.0 m table, the Cincinnati CI FiberMax 4020 is the large-format version of Cincinnati's linear-drive fiber laser. Its working area measures 158 in (4,013 mm) by 78 in (1,981 mm), and each pallet is rated for a work piece weight of 3,500 lb (1,588 kg). Power sources run from 5 kW through 8 kW, 10 kW, 12 kW and 15 kW to 16 kW.

Nothing in the motion figures is given up for the bigger table. The catalogue lists the same 12,020 ipm (305,308 mm/min) simultaneous speed as the CI FiberMax 3015, the same ±0.001 in (±0.0254 mm) positioning accuracy and the same ±0.001 in (±0.0254 mm) repeatability. Z travel is 3.5 in (89 mm) here too.

What the larger format costs is floor. Width grows to 183 in (4,648 mm), the enclosure to 285 in (7,239 mm) and the overall length to 471 in (11,963 mm); height stays at 97 in (2,464 mm) and the pallets at 39 in (991 mm). A shop that only occasionally nests on wide sheet should weigh that against the CI FiberMax 3015, which is 144 in (3,658 mm) wide and 390 in (9,906 mm) long overall.

The equipment Cincinnati describes for the series applies to this size as well. Pallets exchange in 11 seconds at a common cut height. The frame is all steel. An automatic nozzle changer and the Fibercut 2DX head, with autofocus and sensors for humidity, pressure and optic cleanliness, look after the cutting end, and the operator works from dual 24 in monitors on a pivoting arm. The exhaust needs a 3000 CFM collector.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Working area of 158 in (4,013 mm) by 78 in (1,981 mm) for 4.0 m x 2.0 m sheet
  • 3,500 lb (1,588 kg) work piece weight, against 2,292 lb (1,040 kg) on the CI FiberMax 3015
  • Keeps the 12,020 ipm (305,308 mm/min) simultaneous speed of the smaller table
  • ±0.001 in (±0.0254 mm) positioning accuracy over the larger working area
  • 11-second dual pallet exchange and an automatic nozzle changer

Limitations

  • Overall length is 471 in (11,963 mm) and width 183 in (4,648 mm), well beyond the CI FiberMax 3015
  • Z travel of 3.5 in (89 mm) limits the machine to flat sheet and plate
  • Laser power tops out at 16 kW; the CI Fiber 4020 is listed up to 20 kW
  • A 3000 CFM collector on 12 in ducting has to be planned alongside the machine

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How large a sheet does the CI FiberMax 4020 take?

The table size is 4020 (4.0 m x 2.0 m). The working area is 158 in (4,013 mm) in X and 78 in (1,981 mm) in Y, with 3.5 in (89 mm) of Z. Each pallet carries a work piece of up to 3,500 lb (1,588 kg).

02 Is the CI FiberMax 4020 slower than the 3015 size?

Not on paper. Cincinnati lists 12,020 ipm (305,308 mm/min) simultaneous speed for the CI FiberMax 4020 and for the CI FiberMax 3015 alike, and ±0.001 in (±0.0254 mm) for both positioning accuracy and repeatability on each. The differences between the two are working area, work piece weight and floor space.

03 What are the installation dimensions?

Width is 183 in (4,648 mm) and height 97 in (2,464 mm). The enclosure is 285 in (7,239 mm) long and the overall length with the pallet station is 471 in (11,963 mm). Pallet height is 39 in (991 mm). Cincinnati also calls for a 3000 CFM collector connected through 12 in ducting, drawn from either side of the machine.

04 What software comes with the machine?

The catalogue lists the machine as equipped with CI Cut, with CI Connect and CI Nest as optional add-ons. It also states that the machine integrates directly with the MARCH 400 automation system, and a Ball Transfer load station is available for moving sheet onto the pallet.
