Chevalier FBL-510 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Chevalier FBL-510 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Chevalier Machinery or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Chevalier FBL-510 is the shortest of Chevalier's largest slant-bed lathes, and the one with the most room around the chuck. Swing over the bed is 44.7 in (1,136 mm), maximum cutting diameter Ø37.0 in (Ø940 mm) and cutting length 41.3 in (1,050 mm).

That shape, wide and short, makes it a chucking machine. Big discs, wheels, rings and valve bodies are held in the jaws and faced, bored and profiled without a tailstock, although one is fitted: a programmable unit with 41.3 in (1,050 mm) of travel and a hydraulic quill 7.9 in (200 mm) in diameter with an MT 6 taper. A quill that size is there to hold up heavy work.

The spindle has an A2-15 nose and a top speed of 1,000 rpm. At a 37 in diameter that is still a high surface speed, so the low ceiling is no handicap for the parts this machine is meant for; it does rule out small-diameter work in aluminium. Chevalier says the lathe features up to a 60HP spindle motor, and the table has no motor row. X travel is 19.3 in (490 mm) and Z travel 41.3 in (1,050 mm), with a 12-station turret for 1 1/4 in x 1 1/4 in or 32 x 32 mm tools.

Installation is a project of its own. The machine weighs 33,000 lb (15,000 kg) and its floor space is 249.8 in x 117.2 in x 99.6 in. The bed is a 45-degree slant casting, Chevalier describes the series as a big bore lathe with box ways, and the control is a Fanuc 0i-T.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 44.7 in (1,136 mm) swing over the bed, the largest printed in this series
  • Ø37.0 in (Ø940 mm) maximum cutting diameter
  • Tailstock quill 7.9 in (200 mm) in diameter with an MT 6 taper
  • Chevalier lists up to a 60HP spindle motor for this lathe
  • 19.3 in (490 mm) of X travel for deep facing cuts

Limitations

  • Spindle speed is limited to 1,000 rpm
  • Cutting length is 41.3 in (1,050 mm), the shortest in the series
  • Bar capacity and spindle bore are missing: the maker's inch and metric figures disagree
  • Needs 249.8 in x 117.2 in of floor and rigging for 33,000 lb (15,000 kg)

Best For

Large discs, wheels and rings up to Ø37.0 in (Ø940 mm) Valve bodies and pump casings held in the chuck Heavy facing and boring at low spindle speed Short, heavy shafts supported on an MT 6 centre

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the capacity of the Chevalier FBL-510?

Swing over bed is 44.7 in (1,136 mm) and swing over cover 32.1 in (816 mm). Maximum cutting diameter is Ø37.0 in (Ø940 mm) and maximum cutting length 41.3 in (1,050 mm). X-axis travel is 19.3 in (490 mm).

02 How big is the spindle bore?

That cannot be taken from the maker's page. The spindle hole diameter and bar capacity rows each give an inch figure and a metric figure that do not agree, so both are left out here. What is stated cleanly is the A2-15 spindle nose and the 1,000 rpm spindle speed. Ask Chevalier for the bore in writing.

03 Why is the swing different from the FBL-520?

The table gives the FBL-510 a swing over bed of 44.7 in (1,136 mm) and the FBL-520 Ø39.4 in (1,000 mm), although both list a 940 mm cutting diameter. The page does not explain the difference. If the swing matters for a part or a fixture, have the maker confirm it for the model being quoted.

04 How much does the FBL-510 weigh and how much room does it need?

Net weight is 33,000 lb (15,000 kg). Floor space is listed as 249.8 in x 117.2 in x 99.6 in (6347.5 x 2,983 x 2,530 mm), width by depth by height.
