Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Bourn & Koch 600H that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Bourn & Koch 600H is the largest H-Series horizontal CNC gear hobber, built around long and heavy shafts: 600 mm (23.6 in) maximum workpiece diameter, a 12 module pitch range and 2,400 mm (94.5 in) of maximum axial travel. At approximately 38,000 lb (17,237 kg) it weighs more than twice as much as the 400H.
What grows from the 400H is the work envelope, not the cutting power. Spindle power is the same 15 kW (20.1 hp). Compared with the 400H, pitch nearly doubles, from 6.4 Module to 12 module, and axial travel goes from 1,250 mm (49.2 in) to 2,400 mm (94.5 in). Coarse teeth on this machine are a matter of patience: the hob runs at up to 350 rpm, the work spindle at 40 rpm, and the automatic double-cut cycle with speed and feed change between cuts is there for exactly this kind of work.
Long parts need support, and the option list reflects it. A heavy-duty hydraulic tailstock, an adjustable roller or hydraulic steadyrest and an extended bed are optional, as are automatic loading and a chip conveyor. A CNC operated tail center, a programmable Y-axis, an integral direct-drive work spindle and automatic lubrication come as standard. Hobs can be 250 mm (9.8 in) long and 200 mm (7.9 in) in diameter, with 200 mm (7.9 in) of automatic hob shift.
Bourn & Koch lists the 600H as 6 axis CNC gear hobbing, with the control named as Fanuc Oi-F and its own HMI on top. The hob swivel covers +/- 45 deg. and is power-programmable. Standard production is stated as AGMA class 9-10 gears on external spur and helical teeth.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 2,400 mm (94.5 in) of maximum axial travel for long shafts and pinions
- 12 module pitch range on workpieces up to 600 mm (23.6 in) in diameter
- Hobs up to 250 mm (9.8 in) long with 200 mm (7.9 in) of automatic hob shift
- CNC operated tail center, programmable Y-axis and integral direct-drive work spindle are standard
- Heavy-duty hydraulic tailstock and adjustable roller or hydraulic steadyrest available for heavy work
Limitations
- Spindle power stays at 15 kW (20.1 hp), the same as the 400H, despite the 12 module pitch range
- Work spindle speed is 40 rpm and hob speed tops out at 350 rpm
- Approximately 38,000 lb (17,237 kg), so foundation and rigging need planning
- A full machine enclosure, the chip conveyor and the mist collector are all optional equipment on this model

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The table gives a maximum workpiece diameter of 600 mm (23.6 in), a pitch range of 12 module and a maximum axial travel of 2,400 mm (94.5 in). The largest hob is 200 mm (7.9 in) in diameter and 250 mm (9.8 in) long.
02
No. Both are listed with 15 kW (20.1 hp) of spindle power. What the 600H gains over the 400H is capacity: 600 mm (23.6 in) of workpiece diameter against 400 mm (15.7 in), and 2,400 mm (94.5 in) of axial travel against 1,250 mm (49.2 in). Its work spindle speed is 40 rpm, where the 400H runs 0-80 rpm.
03
A CNC operated tail center is standard. For heavier or longer parts the optional equipment list includes a heavy-duty hydraulic tailstock, an adjustable roller or hydraulic steadyrest and an extended bed length. A foot valve for the tail center is optional as well.
04
Bourn & Koch lists a Fanuc Oi-F CNC control with 6 axis CNC control and the Bourn & Koch HMI. The Y-axis is programmable, the hob swivel is power-programmable over +/- 45 deg., and speed and feed can be changed in the cut.
