The Sodick AL80G+ is a large sinker EDM with 33.46 in (850 mm) of X, 20.47 in (520 mm) of Y and 16.53 in (420 mm) of Z over a 43.31 in × 27.56 in (1,100 × 700 mm) table. It takes workpieces up to 6,614 lb (3,000 kg) and electrodes up to 220 lb (100 kg), and the machine weighs 21,605 lb (9,800 kg).
It fills the gap between the AL60G and the AL100G. The AL60G has 23.62 in (600 mm) of X on a 29.53 in × 21.65 in (750 × 550 mm) table and a 3,307 lb (1,500 kg) limit, so the AL80G+ doubles the workpiece rating and moves to a 1,100 mm long table. The AL100G has 47.24 in (1,200 mm) of X, a 63.0 in × 39.37 in (1,600 × 1,000 mm) table and an 11,023 lb (5,000 kg) workpiece limit, but the same 100 kg electrode rating.
The tank is 55.12 in × 37.40 in × 19.69 in (1,400 × 950 × 500 mm). Its 500 mm depth sets the tallest part that can be cut submerged, and Sodick's table does not give the fluid level range or the dielectric volume, so ask for both when planning oil, filtration and fixture heights.
Electrically the AL80G+ asks for no more than the AL60G, a 3-phase, 50/60 Hz, 17 kVA supply, and it controls 4 axes. The footprint of 84.65 in × 129.92 in × 114.17 in (2,150 × 3,300 × 2,900 mm) and the 9,800 kg weight call for a planned foundation and an access route for a 2,900 mm tall machine.
