Overview
The Salvagnini P4X is a next-generation servo-electric panel bender and press brake combination that represents a fundamentally different approach to sheet metal bending. Unlike conventional press brakes that require operator skill to position parts manually, the P4X uses Salvagnini's patented blank holder and blade system to automatically bend complete panel profiles without repositioning. The machine reads part geometry from SIPS software and automatically configures blade height, angle, and sequence. Processing speeds of 10 or more bends per minute are achievable for simple flanged panels. The P4X handles material from 0.5mm to 3.2mm mild steel in sheet sizes up to 1.5x4m. The machine is commonly integrated into Salvagnini FMS cells with their S1 sorter and L3 laser cutting systems for fully automated sheet metal manufacturing.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Automatic bending without operator repositioning — significant labor savings
- 15 bends/min throughput for high-volume panel production
- Consistent repeatability regardless of operator skill level
- Integrates with Salvagnini FMS for lights-out manufacturing
- SIPS offline programming handles unlimited part complexity
Limitations
- Limited to thin material (max 3.2mm) — not for heavy plate work
- High capital cost vs conventional press brakes
- Parts must be flat blanks — cannot process pre-bent or 3D shapes
- Salvagnini ecosystem lock-in for FMS integration

Frequently Asked Questions
01
A conventional press brake bends one flange at a time and requires the operator to reposition the part for each bend. The P4X uses a blank holder to secure the sheet while independently controlled upper and lower blades automatically bend all four sides in sequence without repositioning — much faster for rectangular panel profiles.
02
The P4X handles mild steel up to 3.2mm and stainless steel up to 2.5mm. For heavier gauge material or thick plate bending, a conventional hydraulic press brake is required.
