Overview

The Resato ACM is a modular CNC waterjet cutting table sold as a configurable range instead of a list of fixed sizes: widths of 1, 2, 3 and 4 m, lengths from 1 m, up to 10 m as standard and up to 30 m on request, carrying 1 to 4 cutting heads. Working pressure is up to 4,000 bar (58,015 psi). Hard material is cut with abrasive, soft material with pure water, and the stated material thickness runs from 1 to 200 mm.

The drive is what separates this table from most of its kind. Resato fits direct-drive linear (magnetic) motors, so no mechanical transmission sits between motor and bridge to wear. Positioning accuracy is ±50 micron at 20 °C across the full working area, repeatability is 0.05 mm, and the cutting speed range is 1 – 30,000 mm/min. Resato is careful about what the first figure means: it describes the machine, while the tolerance of a cut part depends on material, thickness, cutting head and speed.

Width decides more than plate size. The maker's table of common configurations prints net cutting ranges as width by length, without a unit. The 2 m wide tables are listed at 2020 across with 1 cutting head and 1670 with 2 cutting heads, while the 3 m wide tables keep 3020 either way. A second head costs net width on the 2 m series and none on the 3 m series. The smallest entry, 1000 × 1000, takes one head only. On the 4 m series the net cutting width is 4,320 mm (170.1 in) with one cutting head, 4,020 mm (158.3 in) with two and 3,420 mm (134.6 in) with three or four.

Two heads are offered. The 2D head cuts straight. The 2.5D head tilts up to 55° positive and negative and rotates ±360° for bevels, with its axes positioned to ±0.1°. Three PJ-series pumps supply them, from the PJ-2-4000 at 18 kW and 1.8 l/min to the PJ-8-4000 at 75 kW and 7.6 l/min, so the pump has to be chosen together with the number of heads it will feed.

Unattended running is part of the base machine: a job queue in the Resato HMI, EMS monitoring that shuts down on a nozzle problem, and automatic shut-down on completion. Flex-Zone, which puts the light curtains on the gantry so that loading continues while the head cuts at the other end, is an option. So are UWC water level control from 0 to 50 mm, the Cascade Filter, the spray bar and the vision camera system.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Direct-drive linear (magnetic) motors move the axes, a drive Resato describes as working without wear because there is no mechanical transmission
  • Positioning accuracy of ±50 micron at 20 °C holds across the full working area, with repeatability of 0.05 mm
  • Configurable in widths of 1, 2, 3 and 4 m and in lengths up to 10 m as standard, up to 30 m on request
  • 1 or 2 cutting heads as standard and 3 or 4 on the larger tables, and heads can be added later
  • The 2.5D head tilts up to 55° positive and negative and rotates ±360°, so bevels are cut on the same table
  • Built for unmanned cutting: job queue in the Resato HMI, EMS nozzle monitoring and automatic shut-down on completion

Limitations

  • On the 2 m series a second cutting head reduces the net width, from 2020 to 1670 in the maker's table
  • Flex-Zone, UWC water level control, the Cascade Filter, the spray bar and the vision camera system are options, not part of the base table
  • Bevel cutting ends at 55° of tilt on the 2.5D head
  • The smallest listed table, 1000 × 1000, comes with 1 cutting head only
  • Resato publishes no machine weight, footprint or electrical connection for the table, and prints the net cutting ranges without a unit

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What sizes does the Resato ACM come in?

It is a configurable range. Widths are 1, 2, 3 and 4 m, and lengths start at 1 m, go up to 10 m as standard and up to 30 m on request. Resato's table of common configurations runs from a 1000 × 1000 table to one listed at 3020 × 10020, and the maker calls those entries examples, not a fixed list. The net cutting ranges in that table are printed as width by length, without a unit.

02 Does a second cutting head reduce the cutting width?

It depends on the width series. On the 2 m series it does: the listed net width drops from 2020 with 1 cutting head to 1670 with 2 cutting heads. On the 3 m series the net range stays the same with one or two heads. On the 4 m series the net cutting width is 4,320 mm (170.1 in) with one cutting head, 4,020 mm (158.3 in) with two and 3,420 mm (134.6 in) with three or four.

03 How accurate is the ACM?

Positioning accuracy is ±50 micron at 20 °C, across the full working area, and repeatability is 0.05 mm. The 2.5D head positions its own axes to ±0.1°. Those are machine figures. Resato states that the cutting tolerance of a workpiece depends on material, thickness, cutting head and speed, so a test cut on the actual material is the way to learn what a part will hold.

04 Which pumps and cutting heads go with the ACM?

Three PJ-series pumps are listed, all working up to 4,000 bar (58,015 psi): the PJ-2-4000 with 18 kW and 1.8 l/min, the PJ-4-4000 with 30 kW and 3.8 l/min, and the PJ-8-4000 with 75 kW and 7.6 l/min. Heads are the 2D head for straight cuts and the 2.5D head, which tilts up to 55° and rotates ±360°. Both work with abrasive and with pure water. Water nozzles come in 0.25, 0.35 and 0.4 mm.

05 Can the ACM run without an operator?

Yes. The maker describes operation as fully automatic and suitable for unmanned cutting, with automatic shut-down on completion. Several jobs are queued in the Resato HMI and EMS monitoring stops the machine when it detects a nozzle problem. With the optional Flex-Zone the light curtains sit on the gantry, so an operator can load and unload one end of the table while cutting continues at the other.
