Onsrud 169G 5-Axis — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Onsrud 169G 5-Axis that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Onsrud or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

Fourteen feet of table and a 28 in (711 mm) Z-stroke make the Onsrud 169G 5-Axis a mid-size machine for three-dimensional work. The table measures 169 in (4,293 mm) by 61 in (1,550 mm), with 4 vacuum zones.

The four zones are worth a thought. They give two halves of about seven feet, and Onsrud's pendulum method, cutting in one zone while the other is loaded, works with them. For mould and pattern work the cycle on each part is long, so the gain is not in seconds saved. It is that a finished part can be unbolted, inspected and replaced without stopping the spindle at the other end.

This model is 275 in (6,985 mm) long, 142 in (3,607 mm) wide and 155 in (3,937 mm) high. Every five-foot-wide machine in the 28 in block shares that width and height.

What does it machine? Onsrud names composites, aluminum, foam and wood for the series. In practice, at this size: lay-up tools for small aircraft parts, foam plugs for canoes and small hulls, patterns for castings, trim fixtures. The standard 18 hp (13.4 kW) spindle at 24,000 rpm suits foam, wood and light composite trimming. Aluminum tools will want the 33 hp (24.6 kW) option.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the work area of the Onsrud 169G 5-Axis?

The table is 169 in (4,293 mm) in X and 61 in (1,550 mm) in Y, and the Z-stroke is 28 in (711 mm). Onsrud's table gives table and machine sizes but not axis travels, so ask for those when comparing with other makes.

02 Can two parts be set up at once on the 169G 5-Axis?

Yes. With 4 vacuum zones the table can be run as two areas. Onsrud calls this pendulum processing: one zone is loaded safely while the gantry machines in the other.

03 How big is the 169G 5-Axis overall?

275 in (6,985 mm) long, 142 in (3,607 mm) wide and 155 in (3,937 mm) high. The 3-axis 169G has the same frame figures in Onsrud's tables.

04 Which control runs the 169G 5-Axis?

Onsrud states that the G-Series is operated through a standard FANUC interface or its own touchscreen interface. The page does not name the control model or its 5-axis functions, so confirm those against the parts you plan to program.
