Overview
The Nakamura-Tome SC-100 is a compact, high-precision CNC turning center designed for small part production with a maximum turning diameter of 51 mm from bar stock. The SC-100 sits at the entry point of Nakamura-Tome’s SC single-turret lineup, targeting shops that need the precision and build quality of a Nakamura-Tome machine for parts smaller than what the SC-200 handles efficiently.
The machine features a 6-inch chuck with 51 mm bar capacity and a main spindle delivering 11/7.5 kW (15/10 hp) at 5,000 RPM. An optional sub-spindle provides 7.5/5.5 kW at 6,000 RPM for back-working operations. Z-axis travel is 400 mm (standard with sub-spindle) or 300 mm (with tailstock), with an optional distance between centers of 430 mm and between spindles of 600 mm.
The milling motor provides 7.1/2.2 kW with Y-axis stroke of 80 mm (+/-40 mm) for off-center milling operations. The machine supports cross-drilling, flat milling, hexagon machining, and other driven tool operations that reduce secondary operations.
Machine dimensions are 1,780 x 2,524 mm (standard) or 2,934 mm (MATA-BEI configuration) x 1,825 mm depth. The SC-100 features 100% recovery of lubrication oil as a standard specification, and an environment-friendly inverter-type hydraulic unit that reduces energy consumption and noise.
Nakamura-Tome builds the SC-100 with the same thermal symmetry design and precision assembly methods used across their product line, ensuring consistent accuracy over extended production runs. The FANUC control platform provides industry-standard programming compatibility.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Compact footprint fits into tight production cells and enables clustering of multiple machines
- 7.1 kW milling motor with 80 mm Y-axis provides genuine off-center milling for cross-drilling and flats
- Optional sub-spindle at 6,000 RPM enables complete front-and-back machining in one cycle
- 100% lubrication oil recovery and inverter hydraulics reduce operating costs and environmental impact
- 5,000 RPM main spindle is well-suited for the small part diameters the machine is designed for
- Nakamura-Tome precision and thermal stability in the smallest machine in the SC lineup
Limitations
- 51 mm bar capacity limits the machine to small parts -- shops needing 65+ mm bar should look at the SC-200 or AS-200
- 5,000 RPM main spindle is lower than the 6,000 RPM available on the SC-100X2 and other competitive compact lathes
- 230 mm maximum turning length constrains the machine to short parts without the sub-spindle Z-travel
- Single turret limits simultaneous cutting operations compared to twin-turret alternatives

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The SC-100 handles smaller parts with 51 mm bar capacity vs 51 mm on the SC-200, but the SC-200 has a 200 mm max turning diameter vs the SC-100 at 51 mm from bar. The SC-200 also has higher spindle power (11 kW vs 11/7.5 kW) and more turning length (275 mm vs 230 mm). Choose the SC-100 for smaller parts where its compact footprint is advantageous.
02
Yes, with the optional sub-spindle. The main spindle machines the front, the sub-spindle grabs the part and machines the back end. This eliminates re-chucking and the concentricity errors it introduces.
03
The SC-100 features a standard lubrication system that recovers and recirculates 100% of cutting oil, reducing consumable costs and environmental waste. The inverter hydraulic unit further reduces energy consumption.
04
MATA-BEI extends the machine width from 2,524 mm to 2,934 mm to accommodate additional automation or workholding accessories.
