Overview

The Mazak INTEGREX i-V is the vertical multi-tasking platform combining vertical turning with full milling center capability for round and prismatic workpieces. The workpiece sits on a vertical rotary table, ideal for disc-shaped, flanged, and heavy-base components that benefit from gravity-loaded fixturing.

Four base models: i-500V/5 (730 mm/28.74 in diameter, CAT 40, 1,000 RPM), i-630V/6 (1,050 mm/41.34 in, CAT 50, 550 RPM), i-630V/6S single-pallet (1,250 mm/49.21 in), and i-800V/8 (1,500 mm/59.06 in, 500 RPM) with i-800V/8S reaching 1,700 mm (66.93 in) diameter.

Vertical orientation offers natural advantages: gravity holds the part, chip evacuation is excellent, and operator has clear line-of-sight. Milling spindle operates from above for simultaneous 5-axis work. Larger models use CAT 50 tooling for maximum rigidity. All on MAZATROL SmoothAi.

Competes with DMG Mori NTX vertical and Okuma VTM series. New i-V ranges $450,000 (i-500V/5) to over $900,000 (loaded i-800V/8S). Specs sourced from Mazak published data.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Vertical orientation provides gravity-loaded fixturing for heavy disc and flanged workpieces
  • Workpiece diameters up to 1,700 mm on i-800V/8S handle large aerospace and energy components
  • CAT 50 on larger models for maximum milling rigidity on tough materials
  • Excellent chip evacuation with vertical spindle orientation
  • Full simultaneous 5-axis combines vertical turning with milling center contouring
  • Clear operator line-of-sight improves setup confidence
  • 2-pallet changer option reduces load/unload time impact on utilization

Limitations

  • Vertical orientation limits maximum workpiece height vs horizontal machines
  • Starting at $450K+; larger i-800V/8S can exceed $900K
  • Table speeds 500-1,000 RPM limit small-diameter turning performance
  • Fewer milling spindle options than horizontal i-500
  • Limited used market availability vs horizontal INTEGREX models

Best For

Aerospace manufacturers machining turbine discs, engine casings, and bulkhead rings Energy sector producing large flanged components, valve bodies, and pump housings Precision manufacturers running heavy flat workpieces difficult to chuck horizontally Shops needing both turning and 5-axis milling on large round parts in one setup Defense contractors producing large heavy components where vertical reduces handling risk

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does an i-V cost?

i-500V/5 starts around $450K. i-630V/6 $550K-$700K. i-800V/8 starts above $700K, can exceed $900K with 2-pallet. Used units $250K-$500K when available.

02 i-V vs horizontal i-Series?

Choose i-V for heavy, flat, disc-shaped parts (turbine discs, flanged housings). Gravity fixturing is more rigid and safer for these shapes. Choose horizontal for shaft-type elongated parts needing tailstock support.

03 2-pallet vs S (single-pallet)?

2-pallet loads next workpiece during cutting for max spindle utilization. S variant has direct table access, simpler setup, lower price. 2-pallet for production; S for high-mix or prototype.

04 Can it do gear cutting?

Yes. 5-axis capability and C-axis precision support gear cutting including hobbing and power skiving with appropriate tooling. INTEGREX AG adds dedicated gear machining.

05 Foundation requirements?

Larger models weigh 30,000+ kg; require reinforced concrete foundations engineered for combined machine and workpiece weight. Mazak provides foundation drawings with every order.
