Overview

The Mazak INTEGREX i-100S NEO is the sub-spindle variant of the NEO-generation compact INTEGREX, adding a programmable second spindle for true done-in-one processing of both ends of a workpiece.

The i-100S NEO runs a 6-inch main chuck with a maximum machining diameter of 600 mm (23.62 in) and maximum machining length of 850 mm (33.46 in), significantly longer than the single-spindle i-100 NEO at 590 mm. The Y-axis delivers 210 mm (8.27 in) of travel.

The main turning spindle delivers 18.5 kW (25 hp) at 5,000 RPM. The milling spindle operates at 12,000 RPM standard (20,000 RPM optional) through an HSK-A40 interface. The B-axis swings 240 degrees with 0.0001-degree resolution.

The NEO generation brings MAZATROL SmoothAi CNC with Ai Thermal Shield, redesigned compact milling head, and front-mounted tool magazine. These are particularly valuable on the S variant where long dual-spindle cycles benefit from thermal compensation.

The i-100S NEO competes with the DMG Mori NTX 1000, Okuma Multus B200II with sub-spindle, and Nakamura-Tome Super NTX. New machines price between $340,000 and $450,000.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Sub-spindle enables complete done-in-one processing of both part ends, eliminating secondary operations
  • NEO generation SmoothAi with Ai Thermal Shield maintains accuracy during long dual-spindle cycles
  • 850 mm machining length provides significantly more range than the i-100 NEO (590 mm)
  • 240-degree B-axis provides true 5-axis simultaneous milling on both front and back features
  • Compact footprint delivers full 5-axis mill-turn with sub-spindle in less floor space than larger platforms
  • Front-mounted tool magazine with up to 72 tools supports complex done-in-one parts

Limitations

  • Dollar 340K-450K investment requires consistent complex work with both-end features to justify
  • HSK-A40 milling taper limits tool size compared to HSK-A63 on larger machines
  • 6-inch chuck limits workpiece diameter; 8-inch chuck work needs the i-200S NEO
  • Programming complexity increases significantly with sub-spindle operations

Best For

Medical device manufacturers producing implants requiring both-end machining from bar stock Aerospace fastener shops machining components with features on both ends High-precision job shops offering done-in-one processing Production environments running bar-fed lights-out on small-diameter parts Shops upgrading from separate lathe and mill setups

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the i-100 NEO and i-100S NEO?

The i-100 NEO has single spindle with tailstock. The i-100S NEO replaces tailstock with sub-spindle for back-face machining, with longer machining length (850 vs 590 mm). Sub-spindle adds $50,000-$70,000.

02 What does a new i-100S NEO cost?

Base configurations start around $340,000. Production-ready setups run $400,000-$450,000.

03 Can the i-100S NEO run unattended?

Yes. Sub-spindle with bar feeder enables lights-out production of complete parts.

04 How does it compare to the DMG Mori NTX 1000?

Both are compact 5-axis mill-turn with sub-spindle. Mazak offers SmoothAi with Ai Thermal Shield. DMG Mori offers CELOS. Selection comes down to control preference and local support.
