Matsuura MAM72-52V

The Matsuura MAM72-52V is a 5-axis machining center with a long X axis: 1,010 mm (39.8 in), against 540 mm (21.3 in) of Y and 610 mm (24.0 in) of Z. Its standard spindle runs to 15,000 rpm on SK40 or BT40 taper, rapid traverse is 60 / 60 / 60 m/min (2,362.2 ipm), and each pallet carries up to 300 kg (660 lb).

Parts go up to Ø 520 × H 400 mm (Ø 20.47 × H 15.75 in) in the standard configuration, on a working surface of Ø400 mm (Ø15.74 in). A part can therefore be wider than the surface it sits on, so check how the fixture supports the overhang, and keep part plus fixture inside the 300 kg (660 lb) pallet rating.

The X travel is nearly twice the 550 mm (21.6 in) of the MAM72-35V, while Y and Z grow less. The MAM72-70V is the larger alternative, with 1200 mm (47.2 in) of X, 720 mm (28.3 in) of Y, a 700 mm (27.6 in) table and BT50 as standard. The MAM72-52V is the choice when the part fits Ø 520 mm and a 40-taper spindle at 15,000 rpm suits the work.

A 20,000 rpm BT40 spindle is offered as an option, and HSK-A63 is an optional taper. The machine runs Matsuura's MiOS 3 operating system. The table gives no spindle power, tool capacity or pallet count, so ask for those with the quotation; they decide whether the machine suits heavy steel work and long unattended runs.
