Overview
The GF AgieCharmilles FORM X 600 is the large-travel entry point in the AgieCharmilles sinker EDM lineup. With 600 x 400 x 400 mm (23.6 x 15.7 x 15.7 in) of X/Y/Z travel, this machine handles the larger mold cavities and die inserts that the compact FORM E and FORM X cannot reach, making it the go-to for shops working with bigger tooling.
The ISPG generator delivers 100A peak current, a step up from the FORM E 80A rating. That additional power translates to faster metal removal on heavy roughing applications and is especially noticeable when burning deep cavities with large-area electrodes. Surface finish reaches Ra 0.10 um (4 uin) with standard finishing strategies, and the optional GammaTEC package optimizes large-area finishing for textured and high-gloss mold surfaces.
The table handles workpieces up to 1,200 x 700 x 400 mm (47.2 x 27.6 x 15.7 in) and 1,500 kg (3,307 lb). The larger work tank (internal dimensions roughly 1,200 x 750 x 500 mm) provides good dielectric circulation around big workpieces. A 6-position Linear Tool Changer (LTC) enables unattended multi-electrode sequences, and the machine is System 3R automation-ready.
Four-axis simultaneous interpolation with a full C-axis enables curved recesses, helical geometries, and orbital burning strategies. The AC FORM HMI control follows the same intuitive workflow as the FORM E series, with enhanced features for managing complex multi-electrode jobs.
The FORM X 600 weighs approximately 4,200 kg (9,259 lb) without dielectric. Rapid traverse is 4,000 mm/min on X/Y and 6,000 mm/min on Z. Positioning resolution is 50 nm.
New FORM X 600 machines price between $100,000 and $145,000. Used machines from 2017-2022 trade in the $50,000-$85,000 range.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 600 x 400 x 400 mm travel handles mold cavities and die inserts that compact sinker EDMs cannot reach
- 100A ISPG generator provides more power for faster metal removal on heavy roughing with large-area electrodes
- 6-position LTC enables longer unattended multi-electrode sequences than the FORM E 4-position changer
- 1,500 kg workpiece capacity accommodates large mold plates and die blocks without restriction
- System 3R automation-ready for pallet changing and extended unattended operation
- Same intuitive AC FORM HMI as the FORM E series with enhanced multi-electrode management
Limitations
- Machine tool portion manufactured in China (generator and controls are Swiss), which concerns some buyers
- 100A peak current is adequate for most work but will not match 120A+ machines on the heaviest roughing applications
- Larger footprint than the compact FORM E series requires more dedicated floor space
- 6-position tool changer is still limited compared to 16+ position ATCs on higher-end machines
- GF sinker EDM service network in North America is thinner than Makino in some regions

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New FORM X 600 machines price between $100,000 and $145,000. Used machines from 2017-2022 trade in the $50,000-$85,000 range.
02
The FORM X 600 offers 600 mm X-travel (vs 350 mm), 100A generator (vs 80A), 6-position LTC (vs 4-position), and 1,500 kg workpiece capacity (vs 200 kg). It handles significantly larger work.
03
Like the FORM E, the machine tool portion is made in China while the ISPG generator and AC FORM control are Swiss-engineered.
04
The FORM S is fully Swiss-made with a more advanced generator, tighter accuracy, and better surface finish. The FORM X 600 is positioned as the affordable large-travel option. Expect $40,000-$60,000 less for the FORM X 600.
05
Yes. Mix-material technology allows automated sequences using graphite for roughing and copper for finishing. The ISPG optimizes spark parameters for each material automatically.
