Overview

Twelve driven stations and 8 kW (10.7 hp) at the tool set the Colchester Multiturn 6000XC apart from the smaller XC lathes. It is a 760 mm (29.9 in) swing flat-bed CNC lathe with a C-axis, VDI 40 / DIN 5482 tooling and driven tools that run to 4,000 rpm, on beds from 1,500 mm (59.1 in) to 6,000 mm (236.2 in) between centres.

The driven-tool power is close to half that of the main spindle, which is rated 17 kW (22.8 hp). On most turn-mill lathes the ratio is far lower. Here it means that milling a long keyway in a heavy shaft, or drilling a large bolt circle in a flange, can be done at sensible feed rates instead of being nibbled.

Only one headstock is listed for the XC: a 155 mm (6.1 in) bore, an A2-11 nose and a speed range of 10 - 1,400 rpm. Chuck sizes are 16 / 20 / 24 in (406 / 508 / 610 mm). Swing over the cross slide is 560 mm (22.0 in). The largest bore of the 2-axis Multiturn 6000, 230 mm (9.1 in), is not offered on this page. The swing-in-gap row is printed without a unit and is left out here.

Typical work is heavy and low in volume: propeller shafts, large rolls with drive keys, pump and valve components, flanged spools. For those, ShopTurn on the Siemens 828D shortens the programming of mixed turning and milling. A hydraulic main spindle holding brake and Cs axis control are standard, and steady rests and hydraulic tailstock are options.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What driven tooling does the Multiturn 6000XC have?

A 12-station turret with all stations driven. Tooling type is VDI 40 / DIN 5482, driven tool spindle power 8 kW (10.7 hp) and maximum driven tool speed 4,000 rpm. The main spindle has Cs axis control and a hydraulic holding brake.

02 What are the main spindle figures?

Spindle power is 17 kW (22.8 hp), speed range 10 - 1,400 rpm, spindle nose A2-11 and spindle bore 155 mm (6.1 in). Chuck size is listed as 16 / 20 / 24 in (406 / 508 / 610 mm).
