Overview
The Brother TC-22B is a high-acceleration column traverse tapping center that expands on the TC-20B with a larger work envelope and enhanced servo dynamics for faster cycling on small precision parts. It is positioned as the performance step-up in the TC-B tapping center series.
X/Y/Z travels are 400 x 300 x 250 mm (15.7 x 11.8 x 9.8 in). The spindle runs at 10,000 rpm standard with a 2.2 kW motor on BT30 taper. Optional spindle speeds up to 30,000 rpm are available. The 21-tool ATC provides significantly more tool capacity than the TC-20B, enabling more complex drilling and tapping programs.
The TC-22B uses the same column traverse architecture as the TC-20B, where the spindle column moves in X rather than the table. This reduces table-side moving mass and enables high acceleration rates well-suited to small-part high-mix production.
High acceleration is the defining specification of the TC-22B over the TC-20B — faster X and Y acceleration reduces non-cutting repositioning time in programs with many hole operations. The CNC-B00 control is optimized for high-speed tapping cycles with rigid tapping and synchronization built in.
Machine weight is approximately 1,200 kg with a 1,100 x 1,600 mm footprint — still compact enough for space-constrained cells. Table load capacity is 50 kg.
New machines price $50,000-$70,000. Used units from 2014-2022 trade $22,000-$48,000.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- High-acceleration servo drives reduce repositioning time between holes
- 21-tool ATC enables complex multi-tool programs in one setup
- Larger 400 x 300 mm envelope than TC-20B without a major footprint increase
- Optional 30,000 rpm spindle for micro-machining and aluminum
- Column traverse design reduces moving mass for consistent acceleration
- CNC-B00 built-in rigid tapping cycles with spindle-feed synchronization
Limitations
- 50 kg table limit restricts part weight and fixture mass
- 250 mm Z-travel is limited even for small precision parts
- 2.2 kW spindle motor limits cutting force in harder materials
- Not suited for milling heavy stock or large surface areas
- Column traverse limits rigidity vs fixed-column machining centers

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New $50,000-$70,000. Used $22,000-$48,000.
02
The TC-22B offers more X/Y travel (400 x 300 vs 300 x 200 mm), 21 tools instead of 16, higher acceleration, and a stronger spindle motor.
03
Yes, built into CNC-B00 with spindle-feed synchronization for accurate tapping without floating holders.
04
Standard is 10,000 rpm. Optional 30,000 rpm spindle targets micro-machining and high-speed aluminum.
05
Column traverse moves the spindle column rather than the table, reducing moving mass and allowing higher acceleration on small parts — a key advantage for hole-pattern-intensive work.
