Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Biesse Explora Multi Up M C that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Biesse Explora Multi Up M C is a 5-axis machining centre for three-dimensional parts in plastics, composites, light alloys and resins. Its defining figure is Z: up to 1,017.5 mm (40.1 in) of workable height with the HS300D head, or 930 mm (36.6 in) with the HS673 head. Four sizes cover a workable X from 2,915 mm (114.8 in) to 4,915 mm (193.5 in).
Two heads, two envelopes. The table gives a separate set of workable dimensions for each 5-axis head, and lists a pivot of 182.5 mm (7.2 in) for the HS300D and 185 mm (7.3 in) for the HS673. In X and Y the two heads are nearly the same. In Z the gap is wider, so tall moulds and deep trimming jobs should be checked against the head on the order. Biesse lists the 5-axis unit at 15 kW and 11 kW, without saying on the page which rating belongs to which head.
The structure is electro-welded steel: a rear horseshoe-shaped frame joined at the front by four columns and an upper crossbeam above the front opening. Axis speeds are 85 m/min in X and 60 m/min in Y and Z, with a 104 m/min vector speed. A fast Z axis earns its keep on a machine with this much vertical travel, because the head spends real time retracting between features.
Tooling can be one or two magazines of eight tools each, the main one under the gantry bridge to shorten tool changes, plus an additional rotary magazine of up to 16 tools on the right side. A removable partition splits the working area for pendulum machining, so one station can be loaded while the other is cut. The worktable can be open grate, gridded aluminum or phenolic, or T-slotted, with mechanical or vacuum fixturing. Presetter and probe systems are listed as well.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Up to 1,017.5 mm (40.1 in) of workable Z with the HS300D head
- Workable X up to 4,915 mm (193.5 in) on the largest size
- 85 m/min in X, 60 m/min in Y and Z, 104 m/min vector speed
- Removable partition for pendulum machining on two stations
- Additional rotary tool magazine with up to 16 tools, on top of one or two eight-tool magazines
- Open grate, gridded or T-slot worktables with mechanical or vacuum fixturing
Limitations
- The HS673 head reduces workable Z to 930 mm (36.6 in)
- The standard magazines hold eight tools each; the rotary magazine with up to 16 tools is an addition
- Workable Y is at most 1,765 mm (69.5 in), whichever size is chosen
- The 5-axis unit is listed at 15 kW and 11 kW, with no spindle speed or tool interface on the page

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Maximum workable Z is 1,017.5 mm (40.1 in) with the HS300D head and 930 mm (36.6 in) with the HS673 head. The table lists a pivot figure beside each: 182.5 mm (7.2 in) and 185 mm (7.3 in). Fixture height comes out of the workable Z, so measure the part on its fixture and not on its own.
02
Four: 3015, 3020, 4020 and 5020. With the HS300D head the workable X and Y are 2,915 x 1,265 mm (114.8 x 49.8 in), 2,915 x 1,765 mm (114.8 x 69.5 in), 3,915 x 1,765 mm (154.1 x 69.5 in) and 4,915 x 1,765 mm (193.5 x 69.5 in). The HS673 head gives slightly smaller figures, for example 4,910 x 1,760 mm (193.3 x 69.3 in) on the largest size.
03
One or two tool magazines with a capacity of eight tools each, according to Biesse, with the main magazine under the gantry bridge to reduce tool change time. An additional rotary magazine with up to 16 tools can be installed on the right side of the machine. Count the magazines on the specific configuration before planning a tool list.
04
A removable partition can be installed in the working area to divide it into two stations. The operator loads or unloads one station while the machine works on the other, which cuts idle time between parts. Each station then has only part of the workable X, so pendulum work suits parts well under the full table length.
05
Biesse describes it as a 5-axis machining centre for three-dimensional elements in plastics, composites, light alloys and resins, with continuous axis interpolation for 3D parts and large components. The worktable can be open grate, gridded aluminum or phenolic, or T-slotted, so fixturing can follow the material and the part shape.
