For the biggest boring jobs in the range AWEA offers the BL-4024S: full-size BL travels of 4,000 mm (157.5 in) in X and 2,400 mm (94.5 in) in Y, combined with the high-torque quill spindle. It weighs 39,500 kg (87,081 lb).
Installation deserves attention first. The machine is 5,115 mm (201.4 in) high. Its electrical requirement is 70 kVA at 3 phase, 50 / 60 Hz, and for the S models the table shows only the 220 supply, where the FM models such as the BL-4024FM also show 380~415. Compressed air must be 5 ~ 8 (5) kg/cm². A 560 liter coolant tank and a 4.6 liter lubrication tank need filling. An enclosure splash guard is optional, so decide early whether coolant containment around a part this size is required.
Then the cutting side. The Ø120 mm quill reaches 600 mm (23.6 in) on W and the gear box gives 1,308 Nm (965 lb-ft), with a 2,400 rpm limit. Z travel is 1,300 mm (51.2 in), no more than on the smallest BL, and spindle nose to table top is 885 mm (34.8 in).
Accuracy over such a stroke is quoted as P= 0.025 mm full travel and Ps= 0.018 mm under VDI. HEIDENHAIN linear scales on 3 axes are standard equipment.
Smaller alternatives with the same head are the BL-3024S at 35,500 kg (78,263 lb) and, on the lower column, the BL-4018S at 38,000 kg (83,774 lb).

The quill extends 600 mm (23.6 in) on W and Z travel is 1,300 mm (51.2 in). Tools in the magazine can be 400 mm (15.7 in) long from the gauge line. AWEA's series text names deep hole boring as one of the purposes of the BL.

Its VDI rows are wider: P= 0.025 mm and Ps= 0.018 mm, where the BL-2024S shows P= 0.016 mm and Ps= 0.012 mm. The JIS rows are the same for both, ± 0.01 mm over full travel and ± 0.003 mm.

Two augers and a caterpillar type chip conveyor are standard. The coolant tank holds 560 liter. AWEA adds that a horizontal boring mill layout gives better chip removal than a vertical one.
