How much does the AKS Cutting Systems tru-kut cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the AKS Cutting Systems tru-kut that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The AKS tru-kut is a small-platform, unitized CNC plasma cutting table offered in 5 ft x 10 ft and 6 ft x 12 ft sizes. AKS lists a maximum cut depth of 3 in (76 mm), a maximum travel speed of 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min) and motion accuracy of +/- 0.004 in per 3 ft. The frame is a one-piece unit that AKS says is machined in a single set-up, which is where the accuracy claim comes from.
The brochure describes two levels of the same machine. The standard tru-kut carries a Hypertherm Powermax or MaxPro air plasma supply and ProNest LT software. The tru-kut X swaps in a HyDefinition plasma power supply from the HPR or XPR family, the full version of ProNest and a down draft table. Both use the Hypertherm Edge Connect CNC controller with a 19 in (483 mm) color touch screen, and the brochure states that the controls, motors and drives are the same as on the larger accu-kut.
Motion is by helical rack and pinion on both axes: dual synchronized drives on X and a single drive on the Y-axis bridge. Height is handled by Hypertherm Sensor torch height control, and the torch sits on a magnetic breakaway mount. The cutting table is rated for a 2 in (51 mm) thick full plate, so the 3 in (76 mm) cut depth applies to pieces smaller than a full sheet.
An oxy-fuel torch is offered on a separate carriage on the same bridge for 2 in to 6 in (51 to 152 mm) carbon steel; AKS notes it cannot cut stainless steel or aluminum. Which table the machine ships with needs to be settled with AKS. The product page calls the downdraft table standard with a water table as the change, while the brochure lists a standard water table with the down draft table optional.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Motion accuracy of +/- 0.004 in per 3 ft on a one-piece unitized frame
- 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min) maximum travel speed on helical rack and pinion drives
- Hypertherm Edge Connect CNC controller with a 19 in (483 mm) color touch screen console
- Can be upgraded to the tru-kut X with a HyDefinition plasma supply and the full version of ProNest
- Magnetic breakaway torch and a laser pointer for plate alignment are in the brochure's feature list
Limitations
- Only two sizes, 5 ft x 10 ft and 6 ft x 12 ft; larger plate needs the accu-kut
- The table carries a full plate up to 2 in (51 mm) thick, less than the 3 in (76 mm) maximum cut depth
- The standard machine is an air plasma system with ProNest LT; HyDefinition cutting and full ProNest belong to the tru-kut X upgrade
- With the down draft table, a smoke collector filtration unit or blower fan unit must also be purchased
- AKS's page and brochure disagree on whether the water table or the downdraft table is the standard one

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The product page lists 5 ft x 10 ft and 6 ft x 12 ft options, with a maximum cut width of 5 or 6 ft (1.52 or 1.83 m) and a maximum cut length of 10 or 12 ft (3.05 or 3.66 m). The brochure, which is older, describes the machine as a 5 ft x 10 ft platform only.
02
The tru-kut X is the premium version. According to the brochure it adds a Hypertherm HyDefinition plasma power supply in place of the air plasma unit, the full version of ProNest in place of ProNest LT, and the down draft air table. The frame, drives, motors and controller stay the same.
03
AKS gives a maximum cut depth of 3 in (76 mm) on the product page. The cutting table is rated for a full plate up to 2 in (51 mm) thick. An optional oxy-fuel torch on a separate carriage covers carbon steel from 2 in to 6 in (51 to 152 mm), and AKS states that it cannot cut stainless steel or aluminum.
04
A Hypertherm Edge Connect CNC controller running Phoenix operating software, with a 19 in (483 mm) color touch screen console. Programming is done in Hypertherm ProNest LT, with full ProNest as the option. The brochure lists Remote Help over the internet as a controller function.
05
AKS states +/- 0.004 in per 3 ft accuracy of motion and a maximum travel speed of 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min). That is a figure for machine motion, not for cut-part tolerance, which also depends on the plasma process, the consumables and the material.
