Overview

The Renishaw RenAM 500E is an entry-level single-laser powder bed fusion system from the UK precision engineering group, designed to make industrial metal AM accessible without compromising on output quality. It shares the same 500 × 500 mm build platform as the multi-laser RenAM 500Q, making it upgradeable and fully compatible with Renishaw process parameters.

Equipped with a 500 W ytterbium fiber laser, the RenAM 500E features Renishaw InfiniAM Spectral closed-loop process monitoring as standard, providing melt pool emission data for every layer. This data can be used to verify part quality without destructive testing — a significant advantage in regulated industries such as aerospace and medical.

The machine incorporates Renishaw SafeChange filter technology, allowing the internal filter to be exchanged without exposing operators to metal powder. Automated build setup, powder recovery, and sieve-and-return workflows reduce operator intervention and improve consistency.

With a build volume of 245 × 245 × 350 mm, the RenAM 500E targets high-value small-to-medium parts in aerospace brackets, turbine components, implants, and complex tooling where repeatability and traceability are mandatory.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How does the RenAM 500E differ from the RenAM 500Q?

The 500E has a single 500 W laser while the 500Q has four 500 W lasers. Both share the same build platform, atmosphere system, and monitoring, but the 500Q builds ~4× faster. The 500E is the entry point with a lower upfront cost.

02 What is InfiniAM Spectral monitoring?

InfiniAM Spectral captures optical emission from the melt pool using photodetectors at every scan vector. The data is mapped to a 3D voxel model, flagging anomalies for offline review without destructive testing.

03 Can the RenAM 500E be upgraded to multi-laser later?

Renishaw has designed the 500 series with upgrade pathways in mind. Contact Renishaw for current upgrade options — the laser enclosure and optics system are designed to accommodate additional laser heads.
