Overview
The Liebherr LC 300 is a gear hobbing machine for workpieces up to 300 mm in diameter with 700 mm of axial travel, built around the HH 240 hob head with 27 kW of drive power. Axial travel is more than twice the workpiece diameter, which marks it as a machine for long shafts and pinions as much as for wheels.
The HH 240 head is listed with four gear ratios, and each one fixes a speed and a module limit together. Ratio 2.5 gives 3,000 rpm and module 3.5 mm. Ratio 5 gives 1,500 rpm and module 9 mm. Ratios 8 and 12 give 900 and 600 rpm, with module 12 mm listed at the slowest speed. The same 27 kW can therefore be geared for fast cutting of fine pitches or for slow, heavy cuts in coarse ones, and the ratio has to be matched to the module range of the parts.
Tooling capacity is a clear step above the smaller machines. Hobs can be up to 240 mm in diameter with a shift distance of 320 mm, and shank cutters clamp up to 460 mm long. The LC 280 below it is listed with a 150 mm hob, 200 mm of shift and 400 mm of axial travel.
Three machine tables are listed. T 100 and T 170 run at 100 and 170 rpm with a maximum table load of 18 kN. T 400 D runs at 400 rpm, carries 16.5 kN and is listed with 21.8 kW of drive power. Long parts are held by a counter column with 750 mm of travel and a clamping force of up to 13 kN, and the ringloader takes workpieces up to 100 kg. The LC 500 shares these rows and raises the workpiece diameter to 500 mm. Software is LHGearTec.

Support for the free end of the workpiece. Liebherr lists a counter column travel of 750 mm and a clamping force of up to 13 kN. That travel is slightly more than the 700 mm axial travel of the hob head. It matters on long shafts, which need holding at the free end while the teeth are cut.
