Haas ST-30L

The Haas ST-30L is the long-bed ST-30, with 62.5 in (1,588 mm) between centers and a 15 in (381 mm) maximum turning diameter. That is nearly double the 32.5 in (826 mm) of the ST-30, and Haas has equipped the machine for the parts that length implies.

A programmable tailstock with a #4 Morse taper is standard. A steady rest provision is available as an option, which Haas positions for supporting extra-long parts and for machining part faces. The Z axis runs under a scissor-style waycover, also standard. And the bulkhead has an extended tool pocket that gives clearance for tools up to 30 in (762 mm) long, depending on workholding, which is what deep boring of tube and cylinder parts calls for.

At the headstock there is a 10 in (254 mm) chuck on an A2-6 nose, 3 in (76 mm) of bar capacity through a 3.5 in (88.9 mm) bore, and 30 hp (22.4 kW) giving 300 ft-lbf (407 N·m) at 500 rpm with a 3,400 rpm maximum. An optional gearbox takes torque to 1,000 ft-lbf (1,356 N·m) at 150 rpm. Long shafts are often large and heavy, so the gearbox deserves a place on the quote if the work is big-diameter steel.

The standard turret has 12 stations and accepts OD and ID tools in any combination. A BMT65 12-station turret is available as an option, and with it the maximum turning diameter is 13.75 in (349 mm). Rapids are 945 ipm (24 m/min) on both axes, and Z thrust is 5,100 lbf (22,686 N).

The length shows in the logistics: a 202 × 90 × 92 in (513 × 229 × 234 cm) pallet and 13,300 lb (6,033 kg), against 10,900 lb (4,944 kg) for the ST-30. WiFi, Ethernet and HaasDrop wireless file transfer are standard. Haas lists a starting price of US$119,995.
