Overview

The Haas ST-30 is a two-axis turning center for larger-diameter work: 15 in (381 mm) maximum turning diameter, 32.5 in (826 mm) between centers, a 10 in (254 mm) chuck and a 30 hp (22.4 kW) spindle rated 300 ft-lbf (407 N·m) at 500 rpm.

The option that changes the machine most is the gearbox. Haas quotes 1,000 ft-lbf (1,356 N·m) at 150 rpm with it, more than three times the standard torque, delivered at under a third of the speed. A part near the full turning diameter needs few rpm to reach cutting speed, so the gearbox is what makes that diameter usable for roughing in steel. It is an extra, not the base machine. The standard spindle reaches 3,400 rpm; the table gives no top speed for the geared configuration.
