Overview
The DMG Mori NZX 2500 steps up from the NZX 2000 with a larger workpiece envelope for shops running bigger bar stock and heavier chuck work. Maximum workpiece diameter is 370 mm (14.6 inches) with a 10-inch chuck, and turning length runs up to 1,000 mm (39.4 inches) on the long-bed configuration. Bar capacity is 73.7 mm (2.9 inches), covering standard round bar stock up to about 2.875 inches.
The machine supports up to three turrets with upper and lower turret positions plus an optional third turret. Each turret uses BMT (Built-in Motor Turret) technology for milling, and Y-axis travel is available. The main spindle delivers 4,000 RPM with 22.4 kW (30 HP) through an A2-8 spindle nose, which trades some speed versus the NZX 2000 for the heavier cutting loads that come with larger workpieces.
Swing over bed is 780 mm (30.7 inches), and the machine handles up to 225 mm (8.9 inches) in maximum bar work diameter. X-axis travel is 120 mm and Z-axis runs 1,050 mm on the long configuration. The NZX 2500/600L variant with 600 mm between centers is the most common production configuration.
Control is the CELOS platform on MAPPS with a 21.5-inch color touchscreen. The machine weighs approximately 7,258 kg (16,000 lb) in a typical configuration, and dimensions run 2,972 x 2,184 x 2,261 mm.
The NZX 2500 competes with the Mazak QUICK TURN 300MSY, Okuma LB3000 EX II, and Doosan Puma 3100 in the mid-large turning center category. Used NZX 2500 units from the 2014-2019 era show up in the $130,000-$220,000 range. Specs sourced from DMG Mori published data and dealer specifications.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 10-inch chuck and 370 mm max diameter handle larger workpieces that the NZX 2000 cannot accommodate
- 73.7 mm bar capacity covers standard 2.875-inch bar stock without spindle liner changes for most production work
- Multi-turret BMT configuration with Y-axis delivers done-in-one capability on complex medium-to-large turned parts
- 30 HP main spindle provides the torque needed for aggressive roughing on larger diameter steel and stainless workpieces
- Strong used market with 2014-2019 units available in the $130K-$220K range for budget-conscious shops
- CELOS interface with IoT connectivity provides modern job management and remote monitoring capabilities
Limitations
- 4,000 RPM spindle speed is lower than the NZX 2000 at 5,000 RPM, which can limit finishing performance on smaller diameters
- 16,000 lb machine weight requires proper foundation work and crane access for installation
- Starting around $300K new, it is a significant investment for shops that could manage with a simpler twin-turret lathe
- Larger footprint than the NZX 1500 and 2000 means more floor space commitment in the shop

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New pricing runs $300,000-$480,000 depending on configuration. The 600L two-turret version is the most common and comes in mid-range. Adding a third turret, Y-axis on multiple positions, and high-speed milling options push toward the top. Used units from 2014-2019 sell for $130,000-$220,000.
02
The NZX 2500 is a multi-turret production turning center designed for high-volume work with up to three turrets. The NLX 2500 is a more conventional turning center with a single turret plus optional Y-axis and sub-spindle. The NZX costs more but delivers significantly higher productivity on complex parts.
03
Yes. The 30 HP spindle and rigid machine construction handle interrupted cuts in steel and stainless without chatter. The BMT turrets also provide better rigidity during milling operations than VDI-style tooling. For very heavy interrupted cuts on large diameters, consider box way machines.
04
LNS, IEMCA, and FMB all make bar feeders compatible with the NZX 2500. The most common pairing is the LNS Alpha 80 or IEMCA Boss 552 for the 73.7 mm bar capacity. Confirm the magazine length and bar diameter range with your bar feeder supplier before ordering.
