Overview

The DMG Mori NT 6600 DCG is the flagship of the NT DCG series and one of the largest turn-mill centers in the DMG Mori portfolio. Purpose-built for truly massive workpieces, it handles parts up to 1,050 mm (41.3 in) in diameter and 3,000 mm (118.1 in) in length with full 5-axis turn-mill capability. The DCG (Driven at the Center of Gravity) box-in-box construction maintains dynamic accuracy even at this enormous scale.

The main spindle delivers 55 kW (74 hp) at 2,500 RPM with 1,700 Nm of torque through a 21-inch chuck. The optional sub-spindle provides 45 kW (60 hp) at 3,000 RPM. Bar capacity is 165 mm (6.5 in), the largest in the DMG Mori turn-mill lineup. The turn-mill spindle runs at 12,000 RPM with 30 kW (40 hp) and 200 Nm through an HSK-A100 interface, with 20,000 RPM optional.

The B-axis swivels through 240 degrees (plus/minus 120 degrees) via Direct Drive Motor. Axis travels are massive: 920 mm (36.2 in) in X, 400 mm (15.7 in) in Y (plus/minus 200 mm), and 3,100 mm (122 in) in Z. Rapids hit 30 m/min on all main axes. The standard tool magazine holds 40 stations, expandable to 80 or 120.

Control is Fanuc 31iB5 with MAPPS. An optional lower turret adds parallel processing. The machine weighs approximately 35,000 kg (77,162 lb) and requires about 7,200 x 3,800 mm of floor space. Pricing starts around $1,200,000 and can exceed $1,800,000 fully loaded. This is a machine purchased by aerospace primes, energy companies, defense contractors, and heavy industrial manufacturers processing the largest and most complex turned-and-milled components.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,050 mm turning diameter and 3,000 mm length handle the largest components in the DMG Mori turn-mill lineup, covering landing gear barrels, large turbine shafts, and heavy industrial rolls
  • 55 kW / 1,700 Nm main spindle delivers extreme cutting power for deep roughing in the largest-diameter superalloys, titanium, and hardened steels
  • DCG box-in-box construction maintains dynamic accuracy at massive scale, critical for surface finish on heavy workpieces during 5-axis contouring
  • 30 kW turn-mill spindle with HSK-A100 interface provides heavy milling capability scaled to the machine size, not undersized tooling on an oversized platform
  • 165 mm (6.5 in) bar capacity is the largest in the DMG Mori turn-mill lineup, enabling bar-fed production of substantial components
  • 400 mm Y-axis travel (plus/minus 200 mm) provides exceptional off-center reach for complex milled features on the largest workpieces
  • 21-inch chuck with high clamping force secures heavy, large-diameter workpieces for aggressive cutting without vibration

Limitations

  • Starting above $1.2 million, this machine demands extremely high-value parts and consistent utilization to justify the investment
  • At 35,000 kg (77,162 lb), foundation requirements are extreme; budget $40,000-$60,000 for specialized foundation work and rigging
  • 7,200 x 3,800 mm floor space requires a dedicated machine bay with heavy-duty overhead crane (typically 5+ ton capacity)
  • 2,500 RPM main spindle speed is very low; this machine is purely for heavy cutting, not high-speed turning applications
  • Service and maintenance costs at this machine class are premium; expect $20,000-$35,000 annually for scheduled maintenance
  • Limited used market due to specialized application base; selling this machine requires finding a very specific buyer

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does a DMG Mori NT 6600 DCG cost?

A new NT 6600 DCG starts around $1,200,000. Adding the 20,000 RPM milling spindle, sub-spindle, lower turret, expanded 120-tool magazine, and automation can push the price to $1,500,000-$1,800,000.

02 What is the difference between the NT 6600 DCG and the NT 5400 DCG?

The NT 6600 DCG has larger turning diameter (1,050 mm vs 900 mm), much longer turning length (3,000 mm vs 1,500 mm), more powerful spindles (55 kW / 1,700 Nm vs 45 kW / 1,000 Nm), larger chuck (21 in vs 18 in), wider Y-axis (400 mm vs 350 mm), larger bar capacity (165 mm vs 127 mm), and HSK-A100 milling interface (vs HSK-A63).

03 How does the NT 6600 DCG compare to the CTX gamma 3000 TC?

The NT 6600 DCG has much larger turning diameter (1,050 mm vs 700 mm) and more spindle torque (1,700 vs 1,550 Nm). The CTX gamma 3000 TC has a mineral-cast bed for vibration damping and runs Siemens. The NT uses Fanuc and DCG construction. Choose based on whether you need the larger diameter (NT) or the mineral-cast bed advantage (CTX gamma).

04 What foundation does the NT 6600 DCG require?

At 35,000 kg, this machine requires a heavy-duty reinforced concrete foundation with 400-600 mm depth, vibration isolation pads, and dedicated crane access (5-10 ton capacity). Budget $40,000-$60,000 for foundation work and professional rigging.
