Dainichi DL95 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Dainichi DL95 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Dainichi or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Dainichi DL95 is a 2-axis (X, Z) CNC lathe with 980 mm (38.6 in) of swing over the bed, 630 mm (24.8 in) over the carriage and between-centres lengths from 1,500 to 10,000 mm (59.1-393.7 in). It is rated for 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) between centres.

The row that defines its character is the spindle bore. An 85 mm (3.3 in) bore is standard, and five larger ones are optional: 125 / 175 / 254 / 320 / 425 mm (4.9 / 6.9 / 10.0 / 12.6 / 16.7 in). A 425 mm (16.7 in) hole through the headstock of a lathe that swings 980 mm (38.6 in) is a hollow-spindle configuration, the kind used when pipe or casing passes through the spindle and only its end is machined. With the standard bore the same machine is a conventional shaft lathe. The choice has to be made at order.

The spindle runs 12-900 min-1 in 2 gear ranges. Power is listed as 18.5 / 15 kW (24.8 / 20.1 hp), or 22 / 18.5 kW (29.5 / 24.8 hp) with the optional motor. The bed is 565 mm (22.2 in) wide, the standard chuck is a 4-jaw of 500 mm (19.7 in), and the tailstock quill is 140 mm (5.5 in) in diameter, a stout support for the 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) load rating.

The DL120 is the next step up, and it is closer than the names suggest: its weight range is 6,850-12,800 kg (15,102-28,219 lb) against 6,600-11,700 kg (14,550-25,794 lb) here, and it lists the same bore options. What the DL120 changes is the spindle, 630 min-1 with 26 / 22 kW (34.9 / 29.5 hp). The DL95 uses a FANUC 32i-B control with an 8.4 in colour LCD.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Optional spindle bores of 125 / 175 / 254 / 320 / 425 mm (4.9 / 6.9 / 10.0 / 12.6 / 16.7 in) on a lathe with 980 mm (38.6 in) of swing
  • 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) between centres, backed by a 140 mm (5.5 in) tailstock quill
  • 900 min-1 top speed in 2 gear ranges, higher than the 630 min-1 of the DL120
  • Bed lengths give 1,500 to 10,000 mm (59.1-393.7 in) between centres
  • Optional 22 / 18.5 kW (29.5 / 24.8 hp) motor in place of 18.5 / 15 kW (24.8 / 20.1 hp)

Limitations

  • Work that passes over the carriage is limited to 630 mm (24.8 in) in diameter
  • Standard power is 18.5 / 15 kW (24.8 / 20.1 hp); the DL120 starts at 26 / 22 kW (34.9 / 29.5 hp)
  • Every bore above 85 mm (3.3 in) is an option that must be chosen when the machine is ordered
  • Machine weight of 6,600-11,700 kg (14,550-25,794 lb) is close to the DL120's 6,850-12,800 kg (15,102-28,219 lb), so the smaller swing saves little on installation

Best For

Pipe and casing ends through the optional 425 mm (16.7 in) bore Shafts up to 630 mm (24.8 in) in diameter over the carriage Workpieces up to 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) between centres Long parts on beds up to 10,000 mm (393.7 in) between centres

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How big is the largest spindle bore on the DL95?

425 mm (16.7 in). The standard bore is 85 mm (3.3 in), and the options in between are 125, 175, 254 and 320 mm (4.9, 6.9, 10.0 and 12.6 in). All bores above the standard one are options, and since the bore is part of the headstock it is decided when the machine is ordered.

02 What are the capacity figures of the DL95?

Swing over the bed is 980 mm (38.6 in), swing over the carriage 630 mm (24.8 in), and distance between centres 1,500 to 10,000 mm (59.1-393.7 in). The maximum load between centres is 5,000 kg (11,023 lb). The standard chuck is a 4-jaw of 500 mm (19.7 in).

03 What spindle power can the DL95 be ordered with?

The standard rating is listed as 18.5 / 15 kW (24.8 / 20.1 hp) and the optional one as 22 / 18.5 kW (29.5 / 24.8 hp). Either motor drives the spindle through 2 gear ranges over 12-900 min-1. If most of the work is roughing near the 630 mm (24.8 in) carriage swing, the optional motor is the one to specify.

04 Should I choose the DL95 or the DL120?

Decide on speed and power. The DL95 reaches 900 min-1 on 18.5 / 15 kW (24.8 / 20.1 hp); the DL120 stops at 630 min-1 and starts at 26 / 22 kW (34.9 / 29.5 hp). Both list the same optional bores up to 425 mm (16.7 in), and the DL120 weighs 6,850-12,800 kg (15,102-28,219 lb) against 6,600-11,700 kg (14,550-25,794 lb) for the DL95.

05 What tailstock does the DL95 have?

The table lists a tailstock quill of 140 mm (5.5 in) diameter. It does not state the centre taper or the quill travel for this model, so ask Dainichi for both if existing centres are to be reused or if the work needs a long quill stroke.
