Overview

The Citizen Cincom M32 is the largest and most powerful machine in Citizen's Swiss-type Cincom lineup, handling bar stock up to 32mm standard diameter with a 38mm oversize option. Like its smaller sibling the M16, the M32 carries Citizen's M-series designation for maximum versatility, combining gang tools, a 10-station turret, and a back tool post to handle the widest possible range of part geometries within its capacity envelope. For shops producing precision components in the 20-38mm range—hydraulic fittings, automotive valve bodies, medical implants, and aerospace fasteners—the M32 is Citizen's answer to parts that exceed the L20's 20mm ceiling.

The M32's dual spindles both reach 8,000 RPM with substantial 5.5/7.5 kW power ratings, delivering the torque required for aggressive cuts in stainless steel, titanium, and hardened alloys at larger diameters where cutting forces increase significantly. The front spindle uses an FC081-M collet (FC251-M for 38mm) while the back spindle uses an FC081-M-K collet for secure workholding during secondary operations. Maximum machining length reaches 320mm per chucking—the longest in the Cincom range—enabling production of extended-length parts that smaller Swiss machines cannot handle.

The M32's tooling architecture is comprehensive. Gang rotary tools operate at 9,000 RPM, while turret rotary tools and back rotary tools reach 6,000 RPM across the 10-station turret and back tool post. Available in M32-V and M32-VII configurations, with 25-31 tool positions depending on setup, the machine handles complex multi-feature parts requiring turning, milling, cross-drilling, and complete backworking. The M32-VIII variant adds a programmable B-axis for 5-axis contouring on both main and sub-spindle, enabling compound-angle features that push the M32 into mill-turn territory.

Citizen's LFV chip-breaking technology is standard on the M32, and at 32mm diameter this feature becomes absolutely critical. Chip management at larger bar sizes is one of the biggest challenges in Swiss-type production, and LFV provides the controlled chip breaking that makes unattended production viable in stainless steel and titanium. The machine measures 2,860 x 1,465 x 1,900 mm and weighs 4,250-4,300 kg with 24 kVA rated power consumption and 79A full-load current. For shops that need the largest Swiss-type platform Citizen builds, the M32 represents the pinnacle of sliding headstock versatility.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does a Citizen Cincom M32 cost?

A new Citizen Cincom M32 typically runs $280,000-$450,000 depending on configuration. The M32-V starts around $280,000-$340,000, the M32-VII reaches $320,000-$380,000, and the M32-VIII with B-axis can approach $400,000-$450,000. The M32 is the most expensive machine in the Cincom range, reflecting its larger capacity, higher power, and comprehensive tooling architecture.

02 What is the 38mm oversize option?

The M32 can be configured with FC251-M and FC251-M-K collets that accept bar stock up to 38mm diameter instead of the standard 32mm FC081-M collets. This oversize option extends the M32's part range to cover applications that would otherwise require a conventional CNC lathe, though cycle times and cutting speeds may be reduced at the larger diameter.

03 How does the M32 compare to a conventional CNC lathe for 32mm parts?

The M32's Swiss-type sliding headstock design provides superior accuracy and surface finish for long, slender parts compared to conventional CNC lathes. The guide bushing supports the workpiece close to the cutting point, minimizing deflection. For parts with high length-to-diameter ratios, the M32 produces tighter tolerances. However, for short, heavy-duty parts that don't benefit from guide bushing support, a conventional CNC lathe may be more cost-effective.

04 What are the M32-V, M32-VII, and M32-VIII variants?

The M32-V is the base configuration with standard multi-axis control and 25-27 tool positions. The M32-VII expands tool positions to 23-31 with additional configurability. The M32-VIII adds a programmable B-axis (B1) for 5-axis contouring on both main and sub-spindle, enabling compound-angle features. All variants include LFV standard and the triple tool post architecture.

05 Can the M32 run guide-bushless?

Yes. The M32 supports guide-bushless operation for shorter parts where guide bushing support is unnecessary. Guide-bushless mode reduces bar remnant waste and material costs. The tradeoff is reduced support for long, slender workpieces where the guide bushing provides critical rigidity to prevent deflection during cutting.

06 Why is LFV critical on the M32?

At 32mm diameter, chips are significantly larger and more difficult to manage than on 12mm or 20mm machines. Long, stringy chips in stainless steel and titanium at this diameter can wrap around tools, damage parts, and cause machine stoppages. LFV's controlled chip breaking is not just convenient at 32mm—it's often the difference between viable unattended production and constant operator intervention for chip clearing.
