Overview
The Mazak VARIAXIS i-700T adds turning to a 5-axis machining center: Mazak names it, with the i-800T and i-1050T, as the VARIAXIS i models that have turning capability for further process integration. The table is a round Ø24.80 in (630 mm), travels are 25 in (635 mm) in X, 43 in (1,092 mm) in Y and 24 in (610 mm) in Z, and the CAT No.40 spindle runs to 18,000 rpm.
The case for a turning table on a mill is that round features, such as bores, seats and outside diameters, are finished in the same clamping as the milled and drilled ones. The transfer to a lathe disappears, and with it the error of picking the part up a second time. Mazak's phrase for this is minimization of cumulative errors by process integration. A workpiece can be up to Ø33.46 in (850 mm) × 19.69 in (500 mm) and 1,543 lb (700 kg). The table lists no rotation speed for turning, so ask for it before judging surface speed on small diameters.
Next to the VARIAXIS i-700 NEO, the i-700T has identical travels and rapids and different spindle ratings: 22 kW (30 HP) continuous and 53 ft-lb (72 Nm) continuous, where the VARIAXIS i-700 NEO has 26 kW (35 HP) and 76 ft-lb (103 Nm) continuous. At 40% ED the i-700T is rated 30 kW (40 HP) and 90 ft-lb (122 Nm). The round table also takes the place of the Ø27.56 in (700 mm) × 19.69 in (500 mm) table of the VARIAXIS i-700 NEO.

Mazak states that MPP (MULTI PALLET POOL), its multi-stage pallet stocker, is compatible with the VARIAXIS i-700T only; a 2-pallet changer and the PALLETECH system are described for the series too.
