How much does the KAAST A-Turn SYM 300 Y cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the KAAST A-Turn SYM 300 Y that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The KAAST A-Turn SYM 300 Y is a turning center with a Y axis and live tooling: ±50 mm (±1.9 in) of Y travel, a 12-station turret and driven tools listed with 4.5 kW (6 hp) and 6,000 rpm. Maximum turning diameter is 420 mm (16.5 in) and maximum turning length 540 mm (21 in), under the FANUC 0i-TF control.
The Y axis is what separates it from a plain two-axis lathe. With travel to either side of the centerline, a driven tool can mill a flat or a keyway with a straight cut and drill holes away from the center of the part. Y moves at a rapid of 10 m/min (393 in/min), slower than the 20 m/min (787 in/min) of X and the 24 m/min (944 in/min) of Z. This version has no sub-spindle. KAAST lists one on the 300 S and 300 SY versions, so second-side work here means a second chucking.
The main spindle has an A2-8 nose with A2-11 as an option, and a 10 in chuck with 12 and 15 in chucks as options. Top speed is 3,500 rpm, with 2,700, 2,500 and 2,000 rpm as the optional figures. Bar capacity starts at 75 mm (2.9 in), and 90 mm (3.5 in), 105 mm (4.1 in) and 116.5 mm (4.5 in) are options. The table does not say which speed goes with which bar size, so settle the combination when specifying the machine. Spindle power is listed as 18.5 kW (25 hp), with 22 kW (30 hp) shown in brackets and no note on what the second figure is.
Swing over the bed is 910 mm (35.75 in) and over the carriage 720 mm (28 in). Z travel is 750 mm (29.5 in) and X travel 275 mm (10.8 in). The machine measures 3,500 x 2,100 x 2,400 mm (138 x 83 x 95 in) and weighs 6,500 kg (14,330 lb), against 5,500 kg (12,130 lb) for the A-Turn 300/700, which has no Y axis in its table.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Y axis with ±50 mm (±1.9 in) of travel for off-center milling and drilling
- Live tooling listed with 4.5 kW (6 hp) and 6,000 rpm on a 12-station turret
- Bar capacity from 75 mm (2.9 in) up to an optional 116.5 mm (4.5 in)
- Chuck sizes of 10, 12 and 15 in and an optional A2-11 spindle nose
- 24 m/min (944 in/min) Z rapid and 20 m/min (787 in/min) X rapid
Limitations
- No sub-spindle on this version; KAAST lists one on the 300 S and 300 SY versions
- Maximum turning length is 540 mm (21 in), shorter than the 700 mm (27.6 in) of the A-Turn 300/700
- Y rapid is 10 m/min (393 in/min), under half the 24 m/min (944 in/min) of Z
- Top speed is 3,500 rpm at most, and the optional spindle figures are lower: 2,700, 2,500 and 2,000 rpm

Frequently Asked Questions
01
No. The listed figures state that this version has no sub-spindle and that the 300 S and 300 SY versions have one. On the A-Turn SYM 300 Y, machining the second side of a part means turning it around and chucking it again.
02
It gives the turret ±50 mm (±1.9 in) of travel across the centerline, with a rapid of 10 m/min (393 in/min). Combined with the live tooling, listed with 4.5 kW (6 hp) and 6,000 rpm, that allows flats, keyways and off-center holes to be machined in the same setup as the turning.
03
Bar capacity is 75 mm (2.9 in) as standard, with 90 mm (3.5 in), 105 mm (4.1 in) and 116.5 mm (4.5 in) as options. The chuck is 10 in, with 12 and 15 in as options, on an A2-8 nose or the optional A2-11. Top speed is 3,500 rpm, with 2,700, 2,500 and 2,000 rpm listed as optional figures.
04
The A-Turn 300/700 is listed with a larger envelope, 500 mm (19.7 in) maximum turning diameter and 700 mm (27.6 in) turning length, at 5,500 kg (12,130 lb). The A-Turn SYM 300 Y turns up to 420 mm (16.5 in) by 540 mm (21 in) and weighs 6,500 kg (14,330 lb), but adds the Y axis. Both have a 12-station turret and a 3,500 rpm standard top speed.
05
The machine measures 3,500 x 2,100 x 2,400 mm (138 x 83 x 95 in) in length, width and height and weighs 6,500 kg (14,330 lb). Allow extra length behind the spindle if a bar feeder is planned; the listed figures do not include one.
