Overview

The Makino D500 is a trunnion-style simultaneous 5-axis vertical machining center. Travels are 550 mm (21.6 in) in X, 1,000 mm (39.4 in) in Y and 500 mm (19.7 in) in Z, over a 500 mm (19.6 in) diameter table with a 400 × 400 mm (15.7 × 15.7 in) pallet. The A-axis covers +30 to -120 and the C-axis rotates a full 360°.

The travel figures are deliberately asymmetric and they are the defining characteristic of the machine. A 1,000 mm Y stroke against 550 mm in X is a marked imbalance in reach, and it suits long parts — aerospace brackets and spars, mould inserts, and multi-part fixtures loaded end to end along Y.
