Overview
The Haas ST-25L pairs the 42.5 in (1,080 mm) long bed with the 30 hp (22.4 kW) spindle: a two-axis lathe with a 10 in (254 mm) chuck, 3 in (76 mm) of bar capacity and 300 ft-lbf (407 N·m) of torque at 500 rpm.
Long parts are usually heavy parts, and torque is what this model brings to the long-bed format. The ST-20L covers the same Z stroke and the same 13 in (330 mm) turning diameter with 20 hp (14.9 kW) and 150 ft-lbf (203 N·m). Doubling the torque matters when a shaft is roughed from 3 in bar or from a forging near the top of the diameter range, where cutting speed keeps the spindle down in the hundreds of rpm. The exchange is spindle speed, 3,400 rpm here against 4,000 rpm on the ST-20L, and that only shows on small diameters.
