Overview
The Grob G 800 is a large-format 5-axis universal machining center that extends Grob horizontal-spindle, swiveling-table architecture to workpiece sizes typical of aerospace structural components, large energy sector parts, and oversized mold and die applications. With X/Y/Z travels of 800 mm x 1,000 mm x 800 mm and a workpiece capacity of 1,600 kg, the G 800 operates significantly above the G 700 in both size and payload, addressing the segment where part scale begins to challenge conventional machining center envelope.
Grob proven horizontal spindle design is maintained on the G 800, providing the same gravity-assisted chip evacuation that makes the G-series preferred in titanium aerospace machining environments. The B-axis swiveling trunnion table provides plus or minus 115 degrees of tilt in combination with the A-axis rotary table continuous 360-degree rotation, enabling full simultaneous 5-axis interpolation at all workpiece positions. The 800 mm table diameter reflects the scale of the machine target applications.
Spindle options for the G 800 include a standard 17,500 rpm HSK-A63 spindle rated at 52 kW, providing the torque density needed for aggressive titanium and nickel superalloy material removal rates at aerospace structural scale. An optional 30,000 rpm spindle addresses high-speed aluminum applications. The 63-position tool magazine expands to 150 tools for complex multi-operation programs.
The G 800 integrates with Grob modular automation systems including the PSS-R pallet storage system and robot cell configurations rated for the heavier pallet loads this machine handles. The Heidenhain TNC 640 and Siemens Sinumerik ONE control options provide full 5-axis programming capability and compatibility with major aerospace CAM systems including Siemens NX, hyperMILL, and Mastercam.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The G 800 has a larger work envelope (800x1,000x800 mm vs. approximately 700x900x700 mm on the G 700) and a higher table load capacity (1,600 kg vs. approximately 1,000 kg). It also offers higher spindle power (52 kW vs. approximately 40 kW), targeting larger aerospace structural and energy sector applications.
02
Yes. The G 800 T variant adds integrated turning capability to the A-axis rotary table via a torque motor, enabling turning operations up to 800 rpm on parts up to 800 mm in diameter. It sits above the G 550 T in Grob mill-turn lineup.
03
The horizontal spindle orientation allows coolant and chips to fall away from the cutting zone by gravity, preventing chip re-cutting and improving tool life and surface quality in long-running titanium and superalloy programs typical of aerospace structural machining.
04
The G 800 integrates with Grob PSS-R pallet storage and retrieval systems configured for heavier pallet loads. Robot loading cells and linear pallet transfer systems are also available, enabling high-value unmanned aerospace production runs.
05
The G 800 standard spindle delivers 52 kW S1 continuous in HSK-A63, providing the torque required for aggressive titanium and nickel superalloy cutting. A 30,000 rpm high-speed option is available for aluminum structural machining.
