Tsugami C200

The Tsugami C200 is a compact CNC lathe for chucked work, built around a 4 in chuck with 200 mm (7.87 in) of travel on both X and Z, a 250 mm (9.84 in) maximum swing and a spindle that runs to 7,000 rpm (rated 6,000 rpm). Unlike the C220 and C180, its table also gives a bar capacity of 32 mm (1.26 in), so short bar work is on the list as well as chucked blanks.

The motor is what sets the C200 apart. At 3.7/7.5 kW it carries more power than the C220 at 2.2/3.7 kW or the C180 at 1.5/2.2 kW, and it gives up top speed in return: the C220 runs to 12,000 rpm against 7,000 rpm here. That balance favours steel, heavier stock removal and the larger diameters a 250 mm (9.84 in) swing allows, rather than tiny parts that want high surface speed from a small diameter.

Rapid traverse is 32 m/min. The C220 and C150 each list 15 m/min and the C180 24 m/min, so on short chucker cycles, where much of the time goes on moving between cuts and back to the load position, the C200 has the quickest axes of the group. The least input increment is 0.1 µm, stated on the X axis in diameter.

The machine weighs 1,220 kg (2,690 lb) and occupies 1,252 × 903 × 1,640 mm (49.3 × 35.6 × 64.6 in). Neither row carries a loader note, while the C220 weight of 2,200 kg (4,850 lb) is stated including a loader and 2 pallets, so the two figures are not like for like. Decide early whether the job needs automatic loading and plan floor space with that in mind.
