Overview

The Amada EM-2510NT is a servo-electric CNC turret punch press that established Amada's reputation in the electric punch press market. The EM series was one of the first commercially successful servo-driven turret punches, and the 2510NT variant remains widely used in fabrication shops worldwide. It is the predecessor to the newer AE-NT line but still represents solid, proven technology.

The working area is 2,500 x 1,000 mm (98 x 39 in), handling standard-format sheets. Maximum punching force is 200 kN (22.5 tons) from the AC servo drive. The machine achieves up to 450 strokes per minute in standard punching mode and handles mild steel up to 4.5 mm (0.177 in) thick at full tonnage. The auto-index turret carries up to 44 tool stations with Amada's multi-tool holders, and indexing time is approximately 0.5 seconds.

The EM-2510NT uses Amada's 04PC control system with a 15-inch touchscreen. While not as modern as the AMNC 3i on newer machines, the 04PC is reliable and well-understood by operators and service technicians. The servo-electric drive consumes approximately 6 kW during production -- still far below hydraulic equivalents. Because thousands of these machines were sold over a production run spanning more than a decade, the used market is strong, with well-maintained machines available from $60,000-$150,000. New production has ended in favor of the AE-NT series, making the EM-2510NT primarily a used market machine now.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Massive installed base means abundant used machines, parts availability, and experienced service technicians
  • 200 kN punching force is generous for a medium-format machine -- handles substantial forming operations
  • Servo-electric drive at 6 kW is far more efficient than the hydraulic turret punches it replaced
  • 44 tool stations with multi-tool holders provide excellent tool capacity for diverse production
  • Proven reliability over a 10+ year production run -- shops run these machines for decades with proper maintenance
  • Used pricing of $60,000-$150,000 makes it accessible for smaller shops entering CNC punching

Limitations

  • New production has ended -- buying new is no longer an option, limiting this to the used market
  • 450 strokes/min is slower than current-generation machines from Amada and competitors
  • 04PC control is functional but dated compared to modern touchscreen interfaces with simulation
  • 4.5 mm max thickness at full tonnage is more restrictive than newer EM-ZRT and AE-NT models
  • ±0.07 mm positioning accuracy is adequate but looser than current-gen machines at ±0.05 mm
05

Best For

Shops entering CNC punching on a budget who want proven servo-electric technology at used market prices Fabricators looking for a reliable second or third punch press for overflow production Operations with existing Amada tooling who want compatibility without buying a new flagship machine Job shops processing standard-format sheets in HVAC, electrical, and general fabrication

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does a used Amada EM-2510NT cost?

Used EM-2510NT machines typically trade between $60,000 and $150,000 depending on year, hours, condition, and included tooling. Machines from 2005-2010 with moderate hours and well-maintained servo drives are commonly available in the $80,000-$120,000 range. Earlier machines or those needing servo overhauls trade lower.

02 Is the EM-2510NT still worth buying used?

Yes, if the price is right and the servo drive is in good condition. The machine's fundamental technology -- servo-electric punch with auto-index turret -- remains competitive for general fabrication work. The main limitations are slower hit rate and older control compared to current machines. Budget $5,000-$15,000 for a servo drive overhaul if the machine has high hours.

03 What replaced the EM-2510NT?

Amada replaced the EM series with the AE-NT line, which offers faster hit rates (600 vs 450 strokes/min), improved controls (AMNC 3i vs 04PC), tighter positioning accuracy (±0.05 mm vs ±0.07 mm), and better energy efficiency. The AE-NT is the direct successor for shops buying new.
