This contrasts with moving-table VMCs where the table and workpiece move in X. Column-moving structure advantages: the table mass doesn't contribute to X-axis inertia, so rapids and acceleration are not penalized by heavy workpiece weight; the table can hold much heavier workpieces because it's structurally supported statically rather than moving dynamically; and table fixturing doesn't need to withstand X-axis inertial forces. The FNV160A uses this structure to achieve 30 m/min rapids with a 5,000 kg table load.

HSK-A100 (hollow taper shank, 100 mm gauge diameter) provides superior rigidity and runout compared to BT50/CAT50 at the same gauge diameter because the double-contact face + taper interface eliminates the axial play present in pull-stud (CAT/BT) tooling systems.
