Overview
The Matsuura VX-1000 is a mid-range vertical machining center in the VX series, stepping up from the VX-660 with significantly more X-axis travel for shops machining larger workpieces. The 1,000 mm X travel opens up a broader range of part sizes while maintaining the box-way rigidity and Matsuura build quality that define the series. It targets general industrial production, mold and die work, and job shop applications where versatility and cutting stability matter more than outright speed.
Axis travel measures 1,020 x 510 x 460 mm (40.2 x 20.1 x 18.1 in) on X/Y/Z. The table is 1,200 x 500 mm (47.2 x 19.7 in) with a load capacity of 700 kg (1,543 lb), accommodating long workpieces or multiple parts fixtured side-by-side. The standard BT40 spindle runs at 12,000 RPM with 15/22 kW (20/30 hp) of power. A 15,000 RPM high-speed option and HSK-A63 tooling are available. Rapid traverse reaches 42 m/min on all three axes.
Like all VX-series machines, the VX-1000 uses hardened and ground box-way construction on all axes. The tool magazine holds 30 tools standard with options for 40 or 60 positions. Tool-to-tool change time is 1.2 seconds. Through-spindle coolant runs at 15 bar standard (70 bar optional). The machine weighs approximately 7,200 kg (15,873 lb) with a footprint of 3,200 x 2,500 mm.
The G-Tech 31i control provides the standard Matsuura touchscreen interface. The VX-1000 competes with the Haas VF-4, Mazak VCN-530C, Okuma GENOS M560-V, and Doosan DNM 5700 in the 1,000 mm class VMC segment. Matsuura's box-way advantage becomes more pronounced at this size, where the longer X-axis amplifies any rigidity differences during heavy cuts at full travel.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 1,020 mm X travel accommodates long workpieces and multi-part fixtures while retaining box-way rigidity across the full stroke
- Box-way construction on all axes provides cutting stability that roller-guide competitors cannot match in heavy interrupted cuts
- 700 kg table load capacity and 1,200 x 500 mm table size handle substantial fixtures and heavy workpieces
- 15/22 kW spindle power option provides adequate torque for steel roughing on a BT40 platform
- Standard 30-tool magazine is practical for most jobs, with expansion to 60 tools for high-mix production
- Through-spindle coolant at 15 bar standard with 70 bar option supports demanding drilling and tapping operations
Limitations
- 42 m/min rapid traverse is slower than roller-guide competitors reaching 48-60 m/min, adding cycle time on positioning-heavy programs
- 510 mm Y travel may be limiting for wide workpieces compared to competitors offering 560-610 mm in this class
- 460 mm Z travel constrains tall part machining and limits long-reach tooling options
- Matsuura VMC resale values in North America are lower than Haas or Mazak equivalents due to smaller installed base

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New VX-1000 pricing typically ranges from $150,000 to $250,000 depending on spindle option, tool magazine size, and accessories. This positions it at a modest premium over the Haas VF-4 but below the Mazak VCN-530C in most configurations. Used machines trade between $70,000 and $150,000 depending on age and condition.
02
The VX-1000 offers 1,020 mm of X travel versus 660 mm on the VX-660, a 1,200 mm table versus 900 mm, and 700 kg table load versus 500 kg. Y and Z travel remain the same at 510 and 460 mm respectively. The VX-1000 weighs about 2,000 kg more, providing additional mass for vibration damping. Choose the VX-1000 when part size or fixture length exceeds the VX-660 envelope.
03
Yes. The box-way construction provides the rigidity needed for consistent surface finish in mold steels like P20 and H13. The 1,020 x 510 mm travel handles most small-to-medium mold inserts and electrode work. For larger mold bases, consider the VX-1500. The optional HSK-A63 tooling improves high-speed finishing performance for mold surface work.
04
The VX-1000 offers 15 kW (20 hp) continuous and 22 kW (30 hp) 30-minute rating. This is adequate for general production machining in steel and cast iron on a BT40 platform. The power rating matches the Matsuura LF-160 and is competitive with other BT40 production VMCs in this class.
