Overview
The DN Solutions VCF 850 SR II is the shorter-travel version of the VCF 850 family with integrated multi-face machining capability. At 2,000 mm (78.7 in) X travel, 850 mm Y, and 800 mm Z, it covers large parts up to about 1.8 meters long while offering the SR functionality that lets you reach features on multiple workpiece faces without reflipping.
The spindle delivers 12,000 RPM with 26 kW (34.8 hp) and 207 Nm (152.7 ft-lb) of torque. That's the same powerplant across the entire VCF 850 II family, and 207 Nm is enough to push sizable face mills through steel and cast iron at production feeds. Combined with the 850 mm Y travel, you've got a machine that can rough and finish large die components, mold halves, and press tools in fewer setups than a standard VMC.
The 2,500 x 870 mm table handles workpieces up to 2,500 kg, and all three axes run 40 m/min rapids. At 22,000 kg (48,502 lb), the SR II is 2,000 kg lighter than the L and LSR models, reflecting the shorter bed. The footprint of 3,795 x 4,440 mm is a full meter narrower, which matters in shops where floor space is at a premium.
The SR designation is what separates this from a standard large VMC. The multi-face access means you can machine coolant channels, side holes, and angular features without pulling the part. For die and mold work, that's the difference between one setup and three. For structural components, it means completing more features before the crane has to move the part.
DN Solutions runs the Fanuc 0i-Plus control with iHMI. The Generation II updates bring improved thermal management and more rigid castings versus the original VCF 850 SR. This machine targets the same work as a horizontal boring mill but in a more accessible, lower-cost vertical format.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Multi-face SR machining capability eliminates setup changes on large die and mold components
- 850 x 800 mm Y/Z travels provide deep access that standard VMCs can't match
- 207 Nm spindle torque handles aggressive roughing on castings and steel weldments
- 2,000 kg lighter and 1 meter shorter than the L/LSR models for shops with space constraints
- 40 m/min rapids on all axes keep the machine competitive on non-cutting time
- Generation II thermal compensation maintains accuracy across production shifts
Limitations
- 2,000 mm X travel limits maximum part length compared to the 3,000 mm L II and LSR II models
- 22,000 kg weight still requires reinforced concrete foundations
- ISO 40 taper is a compromise on a machine this size — heavy-duty applications could use BT50 authority
- SR capability adds cost and programming complexity versus a standard VMC

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New VCF 850 SR II machines run $280,000-$400,000 depending on configuration. That's less than the LSR II with 3,000 mm travel, making it the entry point for the VCF 850 II platform with SR capability.
02
The SR II has 2,000 mm X travel (vs 3,000 mm) and adds multi-face SR machining capability. The L II is a standard long-bed VMC without SR. If your parts are under 2 meters and need multi-face access, choose the SR II. If they're longer but only need top-face machining, the L II is the better value.
03
The SR capability lets you access features on the sides and angled faces of workpieces without removing them from the table. Common applications include mold coolant channels, ejector holes at angles, side pockets on structural parts, and angular features on die components.
04
For most medium-to-large die sets, 2,500 kg is sufficient. Large automotive progressive dies or very heavy mold bases may exceed this — for those, consider the L II or LSR II with 3,500 kg capacity. Always account for fixture weight in addition to the workpiece.
