Overview
The DN Solutions DLX 450 D is the flagship of the DLX additive manufacturing lineup — a dual-laser PBF system with the largest build volume DN Solutions offers. Combining two Yb-Fiber lasers with a 450 x 450 x 470 mm build envelope, it's designed for production-scale metal 3D printing where both part size and throughput matter.
Build volume measures 450 x 450 x 470 mm (17.7 x 17.7 x 18.5 in), with a slightly taller Z-height than the single-laser DLX 450 (470 vs 450 mm). Those extra 20 mm give you more room for taller parts or additional build height for support structures. Both lasers can reach any point on the build platform, enabling flexible scan strategies that optimize for speed or quality depending on the application.
Each laser can be configured in 500W or 1000W, delivering up to 2000W of total laser power across the 450 mm platform. On a build plate nearly twice the area of the DLX 325 D, that dual-laser power cuts build times by 30-70% versus the single-laser DLX 450, making production AM economics much more favorable. The 3-axis optical system maintains 80-micron focus diameter across the full build area for both lasers.
Advanced scanning strategies coordinate the two lasers to minimize thermal distortion, optimize overlap zones, and maintain consistent material properties across the entire build. Bidirectional recoating handles the wide powder bed efficiently. The exchangeable build container system is critical at this scale — downtime between builds is measured in minutes rather than hours.
The machine handles the full DLX material palette: aluminum alloys, titanium (Ti-6Al-4V), copper alloys, Inconel, maraging steel, and stainless steels. Argon or nitrogen protective gas atmosphere with permanent chalk filtration manages the condensate and spatter from high-power dual-laser operation.
At 5,500 kg (12,125 lb) with a 4,600 x 4,100 mm footprint, it matches the single-laser DLX 450's physical specs. This is DN Solutions' answer to the EOS M 400-4, SLM Solutions SLM 500, and Trumpf TruPrint 3000 in the large-format multi-laser production AM segment.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Largest build volume in the DLX lineup at 450 x 450 x 470 mm handles the biggest parts and densest nesting
- Dual lasers with full-field coverage deliver 30-70% faster build times versus the single-laser DLX 450
- Up to 2000W total laser power for maximum throughput on dense, large cross-section parts
- 470 mm Z-height gives the most build depth in the DLX family for taller parts
- Exchangeable build containers minimize downtime at production scale
- Both lasers reach the entire build area, providing maximum scan strategy flexibility
Limitations
- Highest price point in the DLX lineup — requires strong production volume to justify over single-laser options
- Dual-laser stitch zone management on a 450 mm platform adds parameter development complexity
- Large build volume means substantial powder inventory investment — 500+ kg of titanium powder ties up $200,000+
- Newer AM platform from DN Solutions lacks the decade-plus track record of EOS M 400 series or SLM Solutions
- Higher consumable and maintenance costs from running two laser systems simultaneously

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New DLX 450 D pricing typically ranges from $800,000 to $1,300,000 depending on laser power configuration and ancillary equipment. It's the premium offering in the DLX lineup. Total investment including powder handling, post-processing, and initial powder inventory can exceed $1,500,000.
02
The EOS M 400-4 runs four lasers versus the DLX 450 D's two, giving EOS a throughput advantage on full-plate builds. The EOS also has a much larger installed base and deeper application knowledge. The DLX 450 D offers competitive build volume and may come at a lower price point, plus the advantage of integrating with DN Solutions' CNC ecosystem for post-processing.
03
Expect 30-70% build time reduction depending on part geometry and nesting. Dense, large-area builds see the biggest improvements. Sparse builds with small parts spread across the plate see less benefit because there's less simultaneous work for both lasers. The dual-laser advantage scales with the cross-sectional area being melted per layer.
04
A full-height 470 mm build on a 450 x 450 mm platform processes a significant volume of powder. Actual consumption depends on part geometry and nesting density, but maintaining 500+ kg of powder in circulation is standard. At titanium prices ($300-500/kg for AM-grade powder), that's a substantial working capital commitment.
