Overview
The DMG Mori NHX 8000 is an 800mm-class horizontal machining center engineered for heavy-duty production in energy, heavy equipment, and aerospace. With 1,050 x 900 x 1,000 mm (41.3 x 35.4 x 39.4 in) of travel on an 800 x 800 mm (31.5 x 31.5 in) pallet, it takes on workpieces that will not fit on 630mm platforms.
The speedMASTER spindle turns at 6,000 RPM through CAT 50, producing 45 kW (60 hp) and 700 Nm (516 ft-lb) of torque. An 8,000 RPM option is available. Maximum pallet load is 1,500 kg (3,307 lb). Standard 60-tool magazine expandable to 120 or 180. Thermo-symmetric platform with active cooling. Competitors include the Okuma MB-10000H, Mazak HCN-8800, and Makino A100e. New $600,000-$850,000. Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 700 Nm spindle torque through CAT 50 enables aggressive hogging of cast iron and steel
- 1,500 kg pallet load handles the heaviest tombstone fixtures and large workpieces
- 800 x 800 mm pallet accommodates workpieces up to 1,250 mm diameter
- Thermo-symmetric design with active cooling maintains accuracy during sustained heavy cutting
- Roller guideways provide structural stiffness for interrupted cuts in large cast iron housings
- CELOS with Fanuc 31i-B5 provides enterprise connectivity and production monitoring
Limitations
- At 26,000 kg requires significant foundation engineering and heavy rigging
- 6,000 RPM max limits machine to ferrous material work
- 15-second pallet change time acceptable for long cycles but adds up on shorter parts
- Floor space and cost difficult to justify unless consistently running 800mm work
- Foundation and installation add $50,000-$100,000+

$600,000-$850,000. Foundation and rigging add $50,000-$100,000+. LPP adds $300,000-$600,000+. Used 2017-2022 trade $300,000-$550,000.
02
At 26,000 kg, reinforced concrete 300-400mm thick with vibration isolation. Plan for 20+ ton crane capacity.
03
Both strong 800mm HMCs. Mazak offers PALLETECH and SmoothG control. DMG Mori counters with CELOS and speedMASTER spindle.
04
Yes. Two-pallet changer enables load-while-cutting. At 800mm class cycle times are 30-120+ minutes. LPP adds full-shift lights-out capability.
