Machine Comparison
Haas UMC-750 vs Hurco BM500U
Haas Automation vs Hurco · 5-Axis Machining Centers
Summary
The Haas UMC-750 and the Hurco BM500U are 5-axis machining centers of nearly the same size: Y and Z travel are level at about 500 mm, and the Hurco has the longer X, 850 mm (33.46 in) against 30 in (762 mm). The deciding difference is the spindle. The Haas is built around power and torque, the Hurco around speed.
The Haas UMC-750 delivers 30 hp (22.4 kW) and 90 ft-lbf (122 N·m) at 8,100 rpm. The Hurco BM500U delivers 11 kW (14.8 hp) and 70 Nm (51.6 ft-lb) but runs to 15,000 rpm. The Hurco also rapids faster, 35 m/min against 22.9 m/min, and holds 40 tools as standard against 30+1.

Advantages
Haas UMC-750
- 30 hp (22.4 kW) spindle against 11 kW (14.8 hp)
- 90 ft-lbf (122 N·m) of spindle torque against 70 Nm (51.6 ft-lb)
- Spindle offered as CT40, BT40 or HSK-A63; the Hurco table lists CAT 40 only
Hurco BM500U
- 15,000 rpm spindle against 8,100 rpm
- 850 mm (33.46 in) of X travel against 30 in (762 mm)
- 35 m/min (1,377 ipm) rapids against 900 ipm (22.9 m/min)
- 40 tools as standard, with 60 or 96 as options, against 30+1
Verdict
Choose by material. For steel and stainless housings and manifolds that need heavy cuts, the Haas UMC-750 has about twice the spindle power and clearly more torque. For aluminum and plastic parts cut with small tools, the Hurco BM500U is the better fit: 15,000 rpm, 35 m/min rapids and a 40-tool magazine suit light, fast cutting, and its 850 mm of X takes a slightly longer part. Shops that cut both should decide by which material fills more spindle hours.
