Doosan Puma GT 3100 vs Mazak Quick Turn 350MY

Doosan Machine Tools vs Yamazaki Mazak · CNC Lathes / Turning Centers

01

Summary

The Doosan Puma GT 3100 and the Mazak Quick Turn 350MY are both 12 in chuck turning centers, but they are built for different work. The Doosan Puma GT 3100 is a two-axis lathe for heavy roughing and longer shafts; the Mazak Quick Turn 350MY adds milling and off-center work, so drilled and tapped features are finished in the same setup.

The Doosan has the longer Z travel, 830 mm (33 in) against 690 mm, the larger turning diameter, 481 mm (19 in) against Ø420 mm, and a 35 kW (47 hp) spindle where Mazak quotes 22 kW continuous. The Mazak spins faster, 3,300 rpm against 2,800 rpm, carries 12 tools against 10 and rapids at 30000 mm/min against 24 m/min (945 ipm).

Verdict

Choose by whether the part needs milling. A shop turning forgings, castings and shafts in steel or cast iron, with no cross holes or flats, gets more Z travel, more turning diameter and the higher-rated spindle from the Doosan Puma GT 3100. A shop whose chucked parts need drilled, tapped or off-center milled features should take the Mazak Quick Turn 350MY and finish them in one setup instead of moving them to a mill.
