Doosan Puma GT 3100 vs Haas ST-30

Doosan Machine Tools vs Haas Automation · CNC Lathes / Turning Centers

01

Summary

The Doosan Puma GT 3100 and the Haas ST-30 are turning centers with the same Z travel, 830 mm (33 in) against 32.5 in (826 mm). The headline difference is spindle torque: the Doosan lists 1,613 N·m (1,190 ft-lb) against 300 ft-lbf @ 500 rpm (407 N·m @ 500 rpm) on the standard Haas, nearly four times as much.

The Puma GT 3100 is also larger at the chuck: a 12 in chuck against 10 in (254 mm), a 481 mm (19 in) turning diameter against 15 in (381 mm), and 35 kW (47 hp) against 30 hp (22.4 kW). The ST-30 runs faster, 3,400 rpm against 2,800 rpm, turns longer parts at 32.5 in (826 mm) against 755 mm (30 in), and has a 12-station turret against 10 tools.

Verdict

Choose the Doosan Puma GT 3100 for heavy roughing of large-diameter steel and cast-iron parts, forgings and castings: 1,613 N·m (1,190 ft-lb), 35 kW (47 hp) and a 12 in chuck are what that work needs. Choose the Haas ST-30 for smaller-diameter chucked parts and shafts up to 32.5 in (826 mm), where 3,400 rpm and two more tool stations are worth more than torque. Compare the two as standard machines; options change the Haas figures.
