Overview
The Okuma 2SP-2500H is a mid-size twin-spindle CNC chucker that scales up the 2SP platform for larger workpieces than the 2SP-150H can handle. With a 10-inch (250 mm) chuck capacity, the 2SP-2500H brings the same overlapping cycle productivity to parts in the mid-size range, where traditional single-spindle lathes leave cycle time on the table.
The main spindle delivers 18.5/15 kW (25/20 hp) at up to 4,500 RPM through an A2-8 spindle nose. The sub-spindle provides 15/11 kW (20/15 hp) at up to 4,500 RPM. Max turning diameter is 340 mm (13.4 in) with a turning length of 250 mm (9.8 in). Both spindles use 10-inch hydraulic chucks for secure workholding on mid-size parts.
The 12-station turret with BMT mounting handles both turning and driven tools at up to 6,000 RPM. The overlapping cycle architecture means while the turret machines one part on the main spindle, the sub-spindle simultaneously processes the back side of a previously completed part. Effective cycle time approaches the longer single operation rather than the sum of both.
Rapid traverse rates hit 25 m/min on X and 30 m/min on Z. The machine weighs approximately 5,600 kg (12,346 lb) and uses box way construction for rigidity. Okuma's OSP-P300L control manages the twin-spindle synchronization with Thermo-Friendly Concept and Collision Avoidance System.
The 2SP-2500H competes with mid-size twin-spindle chuckers from Emag (VL series), Doosan (Puma 2600SY), and Nakamura-Tome (SC-300) in the dedicated production chucker segment. It's the machine for production shops that have outgrown the 2SP-150H's 6-inch chuck but don't need the general-purpose capability of the LT3000 EX. Specs sourced from Okuma published data.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 10-inch chuck capacity handles mid-size parts that the 2SP-150H's 6-inch chuck can't accommodate
- Overlapping twin-spindle cycles approach half the cycle time of single-spindle machines on qualifying parts
- 18.5 kW main spindle provides enough power for aggressive roughing on steel and stainless mid-size parts
- BMT driven tools at 6,000 RPM enable mill-turn capability for complex chucking parts
- Box way construction provides long-term rigidity and accuracy for production environments
- Thermo-Friendly Concept maintains accuracy during extended high-volume production runs
Limitations
- 250 mm turning length limits part length; longer parts need a general-purpose turning center
- No bar-through capability; the 2SP-2500H is a dedicated chucker requiring pre-cut blanks
- 4,500 RPM spindle speed is lower than the smaller 2SP-150H's 6,000 RPM, limiting high-speed finishing
- Starting at $190K, the twin-spindle premium requires consistent high-volume production to justify
- Programming overlapping cycles requires careful optimization to balance operations between spindles

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New 2SP-2500H machines run $190,000-$280,000 depending on configuration. Base twin-spindle setups start around $190,000-$220,000. Full configurations with driven tools and automation integration reach $250,000-$280,000. Used machines from 2014-2020 sell for $90,000-$150,000.
02
A general-purpose lathe like the LB2500 EX II MYW offers bar-through capability, longer turning length, and more flexibility. The 2SP-2500H is optimized for dedicated chucking production with overlapping cycles—it's faster on qualifying parts but less versatile. Choose the 2SP for high-volume dedicated production; choose the general-purpose lathe for mixed work.
03
Short, disc-shaped parts requiring machining on both faces are ideal. Examples include brake rotors, bearing housings, pump impellers, valve bodies, flanges, and gear blanks. The turning length of 250 mm limits long parts. Parts should require enough operations on both sides to keep both spindles productively engaged during overlapping cycles.
04
Yes. The machine is designed for gantry loader integration, which Okuma offers as a factory option. Robotic loading with collaborative or industrial robots is also supported. The dual-spindle architecture with automatic part transfer enables continuous production with external loading on the main spindle only.
05
The 2SP-2500H has larger chucks (10 vs 6 inch), more turning diameter (340 vs 200 mm), more spindle power (25 vs 15 hp), and heavier construction (5,600 vs 3,800 kg). The 2SP-150H has faster spindle speeds (6,000 vs 4,500 RPM) and faster rapids. Choose based on workpiece size.
