Overview
The Hurco TM12Mi is the largest mill-turn machine in Hurco's TM (non-TMX) lineup, pairing a 12-inch chuck with C-axis and live tooling for shops that need to complete large turned parts with secondary milling features in a single setup. With 30 kW (40 hp), 104 mm bar capacity, and live tools at 5,000 RPM, it handles heavy turning and cross-drilling operations that smaller mill-turn machines can't reach.
The main spindle delivers 40 hp at up to 2,500 RPM through an A2-8 spindle nose, providing substantial torque for heavy roughing on parts up to 508 mm (20 in) in diameter. Maximum turning length is 635 mm (25 in) with a swing over bed of 711 mm (28 in). The 104 mm (4.1 in) bar capacity opens up bar-fed production for larger-diameter stock.
The 12-station turret accepts live tools at up to 5,000 RPM for cross-drilling, flat milling, radial tapping, and other secondary operations. The programmable C-axis positions the spindle to 0.001 degree for accurate feature placement on large-diameter parts. Like the smaller TM-series mill-turn machines, the TM12Mi does not include a Y-axis.
Travels are 260 mm (10.2 in) in X and 635 mm (25 in) in Z. At approximately 6,000 kg (13,228 lb), the TM12Mi has substantial mass for vibration damping during heavy interrupted cuts on castings and forgings. The hydraulic programmable tailstock supports long shaft work with consistent clamping force.
The WinMax conversational control integrates turning and milling programming in one workflow, making the TM12Mi accessible to operators who don't have CAM programming expertise. For shops producing large flanges, valve bodies, and fittings that need cross-ports, bolt holes, and tapped features, the TM12Mi eliminates the need to transfer parts to a VMC for secondary operations. It competes with the Haas ST-25Y (minus Y), Doosan Puma 3100M, and Mazak QT-300M.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 12-inch chuck with 40 hp and live tooling handles large mill-turn parts that smaller machines cannot accommodate
- 104 mm bar capacity enables bar-fed production of larger-diameter parts with milling features
- WinMax conversational control makes programming large mill-turn parts accessible without CAM expertise
- 6,000 kg machine weight provides excellent vibration damping for heavy turning and live tooling operations
- 508 mm max turning diameter covers large flanges, valve bodies, and heavy fittings
- C-axis positioning to 0.001 degree ensures accurate placement of cross-drilled and milled features
Limitations
- No Y-axis limits milling to on-center and radial operations — off-center pockets and features need a VMC
- 2,500 RPM max spindle speed restricts surface footage on smaller-diameter parts within the turning envelope
- 18 m/min rapid traverse is slower than smaller machines, adding non-cutting time on complex programs
- Large footprint and weight may require floor reinforcement and limit placement options in smaller shops
- Hurco dealer network is smaller than Haas, Mazak, and Okuma for service and parts support

Frequently Asked Questions
01
A new Hurco TM12Mi typically sells between $125,000 and $175,000 depending on options including chip conveyor, steady rest, and tooling packages. This is less than full Y-axis mill-turn machines of this size class.
02
The TM12Mi adds C-axis and live tooling capability to the TM12i platform. The TM12i is a 2-axis turning center only. The TM12Mi can cross-drill, mill flats, tap radial holes, and perform other milling operations while turning. The added capability costs approximately $15,000-$25,000 more than the base TM12i.
03
Yes. The 6,000 kg machine weight and 40 hp spindle handle interrupted cuts on castings, and the live tooling can cross-drill and tap features after turning. This is one of the TM12Mi's strengths — completing cast parts in one setup without a secondary VMC operation.
04
The TM12Mi is a turning center with live tooling, not a full multi-tasking machine. It lacks the Y-axis, B-axis milling head, and tool magazine found on machines like the Mazak Integrex or Okuma Multus. However, it costs 50-70% less and handles the majority of mill-turn work that doesn't require complex 3D milling.
05
Cross-drilling, radial tapping, flat milling (D-cuts), slot cutting on the OD, on-center drilling and tapping, and bolt pattern drilling using C-axis indexing. It cannot mill off-center pockets or features that require Y-axis positioning.
