ESAB Precision Plasma Spirit II

The ESAB Precision Plasma Spirit II is an integrated high-definition CNC plasma cutting system combining ESAB's precision plasma power source with the Spirit II gantry table platform. Designed for industrial fabricators requiring consistent, high-quality cuts on mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, the Spirit II system delivers cut quality approaching laser on medium gauge material while retaining the speed and cost-per-part advantages of plasma on thicker plate. The system represents ESAB's flagship integrated CNC plasma solution and competes directly with Hypertherm XPR-based OEM table packages.

The precision plasma power source at the heart of the Spirit II uses ESAB's high-definition torch technology with active plasma dampening and vent-to-shield gas management to achieve ISO 9013 Range 2 or better cut quality on mild steel from 18 gauge to 1 inch, and production-quality results on material up to 2 inches. The plasma process uses oxygen for mild steel and nitrogen or argon-hydrogen (F5) for stainless steel, with automatic gas selection and pressure management handled by the system's integrated gas console. This automation minimizes operator involvement in process setup and reduces the impact of operator variability on cut quality.

The Spirit II gantry table is a precision-engineered CNC platform with a fabricated steel frame, precision linear guide rails on the cross-carriage, and rack-and-pinion drive on the longitudinal axis. The gantry uses AC servo drive technology with closed-loop position feedback, achieving positioning accuracy of ±0.010 inches over the full table travel. Available in standard sizes from 6x12 ft to 10x40 ft, the Spirit II table is supplied with either water table or high-efficiency downdraft fume extraction, with zoned downdraft available on larger table formats to localize extraction to the active cutting zone.

ESAB's Smart Flow II automatic gas console is integrated into the Spirit II system and manages plasma and shield gas selection, pressure regulation, and flow monitoring automatically based on the cutting program parameters. The console includes self-diagnostic monitoring that tracks consumable condition through arc voltage trending, alerting operators when electrode or nozzle wear is approaching replacement threshold before cut quality degrades. This predictive maintenance capability reduces scrap from worn consumables and simplifies consumable management in multi-shift operations.

The Spirit II is controlled through ESAB's Vision 5 CNC, a Windows-based industrial CNC with touchscreen interface, integrated part program library, and direct connection to ESAB's COLUMBUS nesting software. Vision 5 includes ESAB's cut parameter database for one-touch setup based on material and thickness selection, and provides real-time diagnostics and system status monitoring on the operator console. For shops with existing DNC systems or third-party CAM software, the Vision 5 supports standard G-code and ESSI post-processors for seamless integration into existing production workflows.
