Overview
The DMG Mori NT 4300 DCG steps up from the NT 4250 DCG with a larger work envelope and more powerful spindles, targeting shops machining mid-to-large components where the DCG (Driven at the Center of Gravity) advantage in dynamic accuracy is critical. The box-in-box construction drives through the center of gravity of each axis, eliminating pitching moment during acceleration for superior surface finish and geometric accuracy.
The main spindle delivers 37 kW (50 hp) at 3,500 RPM with 700 Nm of torque through a 15-inch chuck. The optional sub-spindle provides 30 kW (40 hp) at 4,000 RPM. Bar capacity is 102 mm (4 in). The turn-mill spindle runs at 12,000 RPM with 18.5 kW (25 hp) through an HSK-A63 interface, with a 20,000 RPM option.
The B-axis swivels through 240 degrees via Direct Drive Motor. Axis travels are 675 mm (26.6 in) in X, 300 mm (11.8 in) in Y (plus/minus 150 mm), and 1,510 mm (59.4 in) in Z. Maximum turning diameter is 700 mm (27.6 in) with a turning length of 1,350 mm (53.1 in). Rapids hit 40 m/min on all main axes. The standard tool magazine holds 40 stations, expandable to 80 or 120.
Control is Fanuc 31iB5 with MAPPS. An optional lower turret adds parallel processing. The machine weighs approximately 19,000 kg (41,888 lb) and requires about 4,800 x 3,100 mm of floor space. Pricing starts around $550,000 with production configs running $650,000-$850,000.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- DCG box-in-box construction delivers superior dynamic accuracy during 5-axis simultaneous machining compared to conventional slide designs
- 1,350 mm turning length handles shaft-type components that the NT 4250 DCG (1,000 mm) cannot accommodate
- 37 kW / 700 Nm main spindle provides substantial heavy-duty cutting power for roughing in superalloys and hardened steels
- 102 mm (4 in) bar capacity covers a wide range of production bar stock for bar-fed multitasking operations
- 15-inch chuck handles large-diameter workpieces securely with high clamping force for heavy interrupted cuts
- Tool magazine expandable to 120 stations supports extended unattended production runs with deep tool libraries
- 300 mm Y-axis travel provides excellent off-center milling capability for complex features on large parts
Limitations
- Starting at $550K, the DCG premium adds $50K-$100K over conventional designs at this size class
- 3,500 RPM main spindle limits high-speed small-diameter turning; optimized for heavy material removal
- 19,000 kg weight demands substantial foundations and rigging logistics adding $15,000-$30,000 to installed cost
- 4,800 x 3,100 mm floor space is significant, requiring dedicated shop real estate with crane access
- Fanuc-only control may not suit shops standardized on Siemens; unlike the CTX series, the NT does not offer Siemens

Frequently Asked Questions
01
A new NT 4300 DCG starts around $550,000. Adding the 20,000 RPM milling spindle, sub-spindle, lower turret, expanded 120-tool magazine, and automation pushes to $650,000-$850,000.
02
The NT 4300 DCG has longer turning length (1,350 mm vs 1,000 mm), more powerful main spindle (37 kW / 700 Nm vs 30 kW / 630 Nm), larger bar capacity (102 mm vs 80 mm), 15-inch chuck (vs 12-inch), and more Z-axis travel (1,510 vs 1,110 mm).
03
The NT 4300 DCG has DCG construction for superior dynamic accuracy, while the NTX 2500 uses conventional slide design. The NTX 2500 is typically more affordable. Both have similar turning capacity. Choose the NT for accuracy-critical work.
04
DCG (Driven at Center of Gravity) means the ball screw drives through the center of gravity of the axis slide, eliminating pitching moment during acceleration. This produces better surface finish and tighter geometric accuracy during simultaneous multi-axis contouring.
