Overview

The TOS Varnsdorf WRTD 130 is a heavy-duty floor-type horizontal boring and milling machine designed for large workpiece machining in energy, mining, shipbuilding, and heavy engineering sectors. With a 130mm spindle diameter, the WRTD 130 delivers high torque for deep boring, heavy face milling, and contour milling on large castings and weldments that cannot be accommodated on conventional machining centers. The floor-mounted design eliminates rotary table weight limitations — workpieces can be positioned directly on the shop floor or on large floor plates. The W-axis (spindle extension) and Z-axis (column traverse) provide extensive boring reach into deep chambers and cross-bores. TOS Varnsdorf equips the WRTD 130 with Siemens 840D sl CNC and a comprehensive tooling system including BT/ISO face drivers and modular boring bar systems. The WRTD 130 is a direct competitor to Fermat and Pama floor borers in the 2,000-6,000 kW machine tool segment.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the W-axis on a horizontal boring machine?

The W-axis is the spindle extension — the spindle can extend out of the headstock by 750mm to reach into deep bores, blind cavities, or cross-bores without moving the entire column. This is essential for boring long through-bores in large frames and housings.

02 What types of operations can the WRTD 130 perform?

The WRTD 130 performs deep boring, face milling, contour milling, drilling, threading, and tapping. With the optional facing slide (U-axis), it can also turn large diameters and face large surfaces without a separate turning machine.
