Overview
The Mazak QT-Ez is Yamazaki Mazak's value-oriented turning center line, designed to put Mazak build quality and MAZATROL programming within reach of shops that cannot justify Quick Turn pricing. Available in 8, 10, and 12-inch chuck sizes with optional milling, Y-axis, and sub-spindle configurations, the QT-Ez covers a wide range of production turning needs at a more accessible price point.
The QT-Ez 8 starts with a 203 mm (8 in) chuck and a max turning diameter of 410 mm (16.13 in). The 10-inch model steps up to a 254 mm (10 in) chuck, and the 12-inch model to 305 mm (12 in). All three share a built-in motor spindle design that eliminates belt vibration. Spindle power ranges from 15 kW (20 hp) on the 8-inch to 22 kW (30 hp) on the 12-inch.
Milling variants (M suffix) add live tooling and C-axis with 0.0001-degree indexing resolution. The MY variants add Y-axis for off-center milling, and the MSY adds a second spindle. The turret uses bolt-on or BMT 55 tooling in a 12-position configuration.
The MAZATROL SmoothEz control is a simplified version of the SmoothG, running on a 15-inch touchscreen. It handles conversational programming and G-code but omits some of the advanced features found on the full SmoothG. For most turning and live-tooling work, SmoothEz is more than adequate and actually easier to learn for operators new to MAZATROL.
The QT-Ez competes with the Haas ST series, Doosan Lynx line, and Hyundai Wia L-series. It slots below the Quick Turn on price while delivering better build quality than most economy lathes. Specs sourced from Mazak Corporation published data.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Base 2-axis starts around $65,000. Fully loaded MSY 12-inch reaches $180,000.
02
QT-Ez uses SmoothEz control, has shorter turning lengths, and lower max spindle power. Build quality and spindle design are similar.
03
For standard turning and live-tooling, yes. It lacks some advanced networking and simulation features.
04
QT-Ez offers built-in motor spindle, MAZATROL programming, and tighter tolerances. Haas costs slightly less.
05
LNS, Iemca, FMB, and Hydrobar are compatible. Bar capacity: 52-80 mm depending on model.
