Overview
The Juaristi TS3 is a table-type horizontal boring and milling machine positioned as the mid-range workhorse of the Juaristi boring mill lineup. With a 130 mm (5.1 in) spindle diameter and X/Y/Z travels of 2,000 x 1,600 x 1,250 mm, the TS3 covers the sweet spot for medium-sized boring work in mold bases, machine tool components, gearbox housings, and general heavy mechanical parts. It shares the same Basque Country manufacturing heritage and hand-scraped construction as the larger TX and MX series, but in a more compact and cost-effective package.
The TS3 spindle runs at up to 3,500 rpm with 30 kW (40 hp) of continuous power, making it notably quicker on lighter cuts and finishing passes than the larger TX3S. The W-axis quill extends 600 mm, which handles most medium-depth boring operations without the need to reposition the headstock. Tooling uses BT50 or ISO 50 shanks through an automatic tool changer with 40 to 80 tool capacity. The integrated rotary table provides 360-degree CNC indexing, enabling four-sided machining of cubic workpieces in a single setup.
Built on a one-piece Meehanite cast iron bed with hand-scraped box guideways, the TS3 delivers the vibration damping and long-term accuracy that Juaristi machines are known for in European production shops. The guideways use turcite-lined surfaces on hardened and ground ways, and all axes read position through Heidenhain glass scales. The standard control is a Heidenhain TNC 640, with Siemens 840D SL as an option. Thermal compensation through the control helps maintain bore position accuracy during long production runs.
New Juaristi TS3 machines price in the $350,000 to $550,000 range depending on table configuration and options. This positions the TS3 below the TX3S in both size and cost, making it accessible to a broader range of shops. The machine competes with Doosan DBC series, TOS Varnsdorf WHN series, and Femco BMC boring mills. Used TS3 machines from the 2008-2018 vintage appear occasionally in the $150,000-$300,000 range.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Mid-range travel envelope covers the majority of medium-sized boring and milling work without the cost of a larger floor-type machine
- 3,500 rpm spindle speed is faster than most boring mills in this class, improving productivity on finishing passes and lighter materials
- Integrated CNC rotary table enables four-sided machining of cubic parts in a single setup, reducing handling time
- Hand-scraped Meehanite cast iron construction provides proven long-term geometric stability and vibration damping
- 10,000 kg table capacity handles substantial workpieces including mold bases, gearbox housings, and machine tool castings
- Lower acquisition cost than the TX3S makes this machine accessible to shops stepping up from horizontal machining centers
Limitations
- 2,000 mm X-travel limits the machine to medium-sized parts; shops processing larger components need the TX3S or MX
- 600 mm W-axis quill travel is shorter than the TX3S, restricting reach on deeper boring operations
- Limited market presence in North America makes finding experienced Juaristi service technicians more difficult
- Table-type design means workpiece weight is limited to 10 tons, ruling out the heaviest castings and weldments
- Spare parts sourcing from Spain can extend downtime compared to domestic or Japanese machine tool brands

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New Juaristi TS3 machines typically price between $350,000 and $550,000 depending on table size, control, and options. Used machines from 2008-2018 trade in the $150,000-$300,000 range.
02
The TX3S is the larger machine with 3,000 mm X-travel vs 2,000 mm on the TS3, 800 mm vs 600 mm quill travel, higher spindle power (37 kW vs 30 kW), and 15-ton vs 10-ton table capacity. The TS3 offers a higher spindle speed of 3,500 rpm vs 3,000 rpm on the TX3S.
03
Yes, with the integrated CNC rotary table providing the B-axis and an optional automatic universal head for the A-axis, the TS3 supports 5-axis simultaneous machining through the Heidenhain TNC 640 or Siemens 840D SL control.
04
The TS3 uses ISO 50 or BT 50 taper tooling. The automatic tool changer holds 40 tools in standard configuration with an 80-tool magazine available as an option.
05
Both are table-type horizontal boring mills in a similar size class. The Doosan DBC is Korean-built and typically offers a lower purchase price with a larger North American service network. The Juaristi TS3 uses hand-scraped guideways and European-built components, which some shops prefer for long-term accuracy retention.
